He drops back to 6f tomorrow and picks up a smart first-time booking in James Doyle. He is a Southwell course winner and all of his career wins have come at this trip.

The 4yo has neen running in much better races on turf this year, not beaten beaten far in three races at Chester. Down to very handy mark now and he has good previous form on this tapeta surface. He was rated a huge 18lb higher this time last year.

Moostar has been consistent over 6f, with several decent efforts, and the return to her preferred trip gives her a chance to bounce back. She has placed in three of her last four runs over 6f, so this trip looks ideal. She has one win and seven places from 14 attempts so far. The tongue strap and visor have produced three places from four runs, so today could be the day.

Pickersgill boasts an outstanding Southwell record, having never finished outside the top two in the three starts here. Returning from the same handicap mark, another solid showing looks likely, and the current odds make him an attractive each-way proposition.

Hectic who is a course and distance winner is rated 5lbs lower than when last victorious in June last year and their last start when 5th of 11 after fading in the final furlong was their 2nd run after wind surgery, Dropping in trip should suit given how they finished last time out and has dropped in class should also be a positive. An open race so well worth an interest to bounce back.

Has been very consistent of late and has shown a similar level of form on both the AW and the turf. Unlikely to be far away.

SHOWTIME MAHOMES is back to last winning mark, which was over this trip, in this grade and with this jockey back in January. Has a bit of form when fresh, so he's considered with plenty of factors falling in his favour. Hugely competiive race for the grade at Newcastle last time out, so I'm not too worried about that miscue and he looks a bit high in price.

Has been totally hit and miss and soul win was 2 years ago, has made the frame on many occasions and looks to be on the bounce again.

Others definitely arrive with stronger recent form so this is a risky tip, small each-way tip. Just his 4th run back from a rest , likely more to offer. Already has good form in the book at this course.
