8:00 Newbury Tips

Kennington has only been seen twice before on a racecourse. His first outing was on the all‑weather at Lingfield over a mile. He was not disgraced when, defying his 33/1 odds, he finished a respectable third. Just over a month later, at the beginning of June, Kennington switched to running on turf and was sent to Lingfield. The drop in trip and change of surface obviously helped, as he won by just over two lengths. Another month has passed, and Kennington runs on the turf at Newbury in his first handicap. The handicapper has given him an opening mark of eighty, which might just enable him to gain another win on turf over seven furlongs.

Manly Fireball won a novice by three and a half lengths last time out. Finally getting his head in front may help him progress further in the handicap now that he's switched back to turf.

Herculeus has won at Newbury, and ran well there last time, so there is no doubt the track suits him. He ran as if needing the run at Ascot on his seasonal debut in May, although it was quite an encouraging performance. His Newbury fifth last time may well be better than it originally looks, as a couple of those finishing ahead of him have gone very well since.

Lets forgive SLIPPER TIME's last three. One was on the all-weather, one was up in grade, and the other was on softer ground. This is a return to a preferred grade, going and trip so with all those boxes ticked, he might fare better here. Now a pound lower than positive looking handicap debut over this trip last August so one to consider.

A 4 year old horse, he has finished in the first two 8 times from 17 starts in Rules Races, including 5 times from 12 on turf. A winner over course and distance, including his penultimate race in March he won at Kempton (all weather surface) with today's jockey, Kaiya Fraser, on board.
