Amongst those in the first half dozen or so in the betting, this one looks the most likely to be suited by a step up in trip. He is a strong fancy here, having run well in all three races so far over shorter. This well-bred colt comes from the same jockey/trainer combo as last year's winner, and the horses that he's been finishing close up to are of a high enough standard to suggest he should go very close here off this mark of 93.

Consistent type was runner-up at this track when last seen, an experience that should stand him in good stead. Shaped as if the step up to 10f would be a help to him on that occasion. His first run of the year saw him beat the subsequent Italian Derby winner. Although that is never a strong classic, a new handicap mark of 88 should still be within his capabilities.

Marhaba Ghaiyyath is a 3-year-old colt trained by Charlie Johnston. He was a clear second at Newmarket behind an unexposed Godolphin favorite last time out. It's interesting that William Buick rides this horse as he rode a horse called Ernst Blofeld at Royal Ascot on his last start and finished down the field behind Quai De Bethune, who had previously finished just a neck ahead of Ernst Blofeld (9-1) at Newbury. Quai De Bethune finished ahead of Best Secret at Royal Ascot. So forgiving Ernst Blofeld's poor show at Ascot, he has close form ties with Best Secret if taken literally. So why has Buick selected Marhaba Ghaiyyath instead of the Gosden horse? Interesting.

Parole Doro has gone close and not had the best of luck in his three races this season and just lost by a shorthead at Newmarket last time out. Should go close again.

Is a huge price given bolted up at Chester in his maiden on decent ground over this trip so this sharp track should suit. Stepped up in trip last time in the King George V Handicap and wasn't disgraced there behind Merchant and that form looks okay now. Last year's winner Approval ran a similar race at Royal Ascot as my fancy did on it's previous start before winning here and dropping in trip here I do like this one a lot. Only downer is the draw but could go well if getting a bit of luck in running and Ashariba win over this C&D yesterday drawn 14 of 14 coming with a late wide rattle. Should be much shorter and must be backed.

Well-bred 3yo colt. Three career runs, all over this 10f trip, form 511. He’s a big strong type and looked good when winning a novice stakes under a penalty six weeks ago. His opening handicap mark of 88 could be lenient. Breeding does suggest that any rain won’t be a problem. More improvement is very possible. Nice price.

He ran freely when finishing fourth in a listed race at Chester in May. If he recreates that performance today, he can win this.

Something amiss at Ascot and that run can be ignored. Freshened up since, and I'm sure he's still very much a work in progress. With Soumillon's sympathetic hands, I'm expecting significant improvement from a good draw.

An apparent lack of front runners in here makes this tricky puzzle even trickier. At a push, I’d think Ernst Blofeld and Hymnbook may be the ones to take this forward from their respective draws. That could set them up nicely to be in the frame if they can dictate a steady pace, and it’s Hymnbook that I had marked as overpriced. Smartly away at Nottingham, he firmly dispatched High Degree off level weights and comes here getting 4 lbs from that rival. Granted, that was High Degree’s debut, but if nothing else, he has gone on to frank the form. The step up in trip should prove no inconvenience on breeding, and he’s a full brother to a horse that won on soft, so probably won’t mind if rain gets into the ground.

Finished 6th on both her starts this season but not disgraced on both occasions and not unfancied on both occasions either. May appreciate the good ground today and is a decent each-way price.

He has secured both of his victories this season at Musselburgh. His recent performance was decent, finishing 5th in a handicap at Newmarket 19 days ago. He is stepping up in distance, and it is risky to overlook a runner from the Johnston stable in this race. Yet, he appears to be more exposed than many of his competitors. However, with Joe Fanning on board, placing an each-way bet at 40/1 seems like a good option for those seeking value.

Not saying this will win, but there are so many underrated horses in here it's unreal. The selection does have decent form over the trip and indeed has looked better for the bump up. Also seems to be okay with ease in the ground.

One win and two runner-up spots in his five starts so far. He won on good to soft on his debut, and he finished runner-up at Newmarket in a listed race on his penultimate start. He drops in grade today for his handicap debut, and trip and ground are in his favor. Each-way chance with Hollie Doyle keeping a 100% partnership intact.

A staying on 3rd place at Newmarket last time out with Great Acclaim a few lengths behind looks decent form. Stepping up in trip looks logical and back up in grade to a Class 2 handicap shouldn't be an issue. Has had some decent Class 2 runs in defeat at both 7 and 8 furlongs. Notable that Oisin Murphy stays on board too.

Brise Noir is a 3-year-old gelding trained by Brian Meehan. He disappointed on his penultimate start over a mile and runs over today's trip of 1m 2f, a trip which seems to suit him, posting RPRs of 77-94-95 with his last run at Newmarket. He won his Novice (77) beating the 11-8 favorite Fantasy World (76) by 2 lengths, and Fantasy World has won his last two starts, posting an RPR of 92 to frank the form. Jim Crowley rides, which looks like an interesting jockey booking, and Brise Noir offers some value at 66-1 for a trainer who picked up a debutant winner just yesterday, so the yard could be just about to fire. Put in a combination FC with Marhaba Ghaiyyath and Ernst Blofeld.
