Got up to take the runner-up spot in the shadows of the post last time out at Ascot on soft ground. Met trouble in running when making a challenge that day and can make amends here from what looks like a favorable draw in stall seven.

The 5yo was 2nd of 15 in this race last year, beaten by just a neck and is 4lb better off this time around. He’s in good shape, going close in his last three runs on soft ground and has no problem with the forecasted heavy ground. The booking of Oisin Murphy for the ride is positive.

Solar Aclaim won in the mud at Yarmouth off a 90 in July at 5f. Then took on 4 lbs and stepped up in class to C2 but has had two duff starts since. Worth another shot at getting a good getaway with Kevin Stott back in the saddle, who was on top for that last win, off a 93 today.

Duran was showing better form earlier in the season but has ran well the last 3 runs, still on what looks like a fair mark so is worth a look today. Soft ground conditions fine for this horse and this jockey knows the horse having been in the saddle previously.

Distance winner who won a Class 2 event comfortably 7 days ago. Ground may be a concern but ran on good to soft in his penultimate race, beaten by a length after switching in the closing stages. Could defy the penalty.

This is the first time this season that Vintage Clarets gets his ideal ground. He loves it deep, and will be galloping on stronger than most at the business end of this sprint. He does carry a big weight but he can defy that burden.

This has been something of a cliff horse for me last season, but I think he's worth giving one last chance since he's undoubtedly well handicapped and has his conditions here. The run after a wind operation last time out was better than it seems at first glance when he was racing on the wrong part of the track. That was a step forward on recent efforts, though, and he was placed on his only previous run at this course off 95 when beaten less than a length on soft. So, with this ground suiting, he could surprise here off a mark of just 90.

Woolhampton won two races in August and September and ran pretty respectably when upped to Listed competition at Ascot last time. Not beaten far there. This Class 2 0-105 is easier. Good on soft ground. The booking of Oliver Searle to ease 5 lbs from the fairly heavy weight of 9 stone 7 pounds is going to help. This 5-year-old mare has won 8 of 49 career starts and may not have finished her winning for the season.
