The Cian Collins 6-year-old hurdler narrowly failed to land a touch at Kilbeggan 36 days ago following a break of five months. Following a maiden hurdle win at Sligo last July on his debut over the obstacles, he was allotted a mark of 116, which seemed and proved to be excessive. Since then, he's dropped 16 lb in the weights, and he's remained on 100 following that third at the beginning of June. I think connections will be eager to regain their losses from then.

Pampar Lady is still a maiden after 16 starts, but she has been placed on 4 occasions. She returned from a 7-month break when 6th at Wexford at the end of May and has been dropped 2 lbs since. She looks sure to improve for that and looks like a good each-way bet with 5 places on offer.

Hidalgo Des Mottes is an 8-year-old gelding trained by Eoin Griffin. He is 0-16 wins over hurdles but has had some good runs in defeat, finishing fourth or better in 9 out of 16 starts, posting a career-high RPR of 111. Unlike most in this race, he brings some course form at Roscommon, finishing 4th out of 13, beaten only 2.5 lengths, posting a RPR of 107 under Ricky Doyle. He runs today off 94 and potentially lower if a conditional picks up the ride, as no jockey is noted as a reserve. He needs to make the cut as a reserve, which will enhance Hidalgo Des Mottes chances is conditional picks up the ride and reduces mark even further.

You Make Me Smile won her last hurdle race in April at Clonmel off a lowly mark of 74 and followed up on the flat at Sligo off a basement mark of 40. She was not so good on her latest flat run but could run well back over hurdles up eight pounds on a mark of 82.

Mary Doyle's 5 year old Mare DIAMOND APPROACH 'should' be in the equation on the evidence of her run 35 days ago at Listowel (16f Good). This Daughter of DIAMOND BOY tried to make all but faded, Winner PATTY O'FARRELL is among her rivals today this time having to carry the wrath of the Handicapper with an extra 8lbs. Jockey Johnny Shinnick remains in the cockpit & has a 42.86% place strike rate the past month. This charge now drops down in class running off the same mark & at current 14/1 odds certainty wouldn't suprise many should she be there or there abouts running on the same mark at another sharp track.

Spricklestown makes her handicap debut and stable debut for the Tom Dreaper yard. This mare only made her debut last year and only had one bumper run and 4 runs in maiden hurdles. She didn't achieve a great deal but showed some promise when 5th on her third run over hurdles. She is related to multiple Grade 1 winners, including the King George VI Chase. This mare is still unexposed, being a late starter. She could improve in leaps and bounds this season.

REINADO goes handicapping with the yard among the recent winners and interesting that experienced ace jockey Brian Hayes stays aboard having recently ridden him through qualifying. A five year old who drops back down to the minimum trip for his first start in this sphere and unlikely to come undone with this opening mark he appeals.

I’ll take a chance on APPLEJACK POET here today. Liz Doyle’s 8 y/o is a winner at least, has had the benefit of a recent spin on the flat, and has the booking of the very capable Barry Stone on board. A moderate sort on the flat, he has proven to be a better hurdler, placed last twice ,off 89 both times (his winning mark). The handicapper is slow to relent, but Barry Stone's 7lb is welcomed. In the hope that the recent flat run has sharpened him up, I’ll have a tentative ew poke with 5 places on offer.

Handicap debut today after a run of disappointing efforts. Drop in trip should be a plus. Looks off a good mark and ground will suit.
