San Quentin Manhunt Expert Review
Theme, Audio + Symbols

With a prison theme, the San Quentin Manhunt slot follows from San Quentin xWays (January 2021) and San Quentin 2: Death Row (September 2024). In this instalment, Beefy Dick and the gang has broken out of prison after months of careful planning. But the ‘pigs’ are onto them as the dogs have found a scent to chase.
The setting is a bird’s eye view of the the prison courtyard. Not as gritty as its predecessors, the soundtrack is emotive and intense, setting the tone of the pigs’ chase of the escaped prisoners.
On the grid, there are low-value objects including toilet paper rolls, handcuffs, shivs, Vaseline and bars of soap. The higher-value symbols include 5 prisoners with the Beefy Dick prisoner the best-paying symbol: 15+ in view will award 3 x your total bet.
San Quentin Manhunt comes with several special symbols including a Police Badge Wild and Guard Tower Bonus Scatter. Using Enhancer Cells, there are plenty of symbols that can appear in them, including xWays, xSplit, Yard Dealer, Cell Search and Cake Buster: more on these below.
San Quentin Manhunt Mobile

San Quentin Manhunt was produced with HTML5 technology. Available to play on mobile, tablet and desktop devices, it’s compatible with iOS and Android smartphones, in Portrait Mode. For the best visual experience, a PC or laptop is recommended though.
Bonus Features
San Quentin Manhunt comes with cascading wins, doubling Multiplier Block values, Enhancer Cell feature symbols and 2 free spins modes, which can all combine to devastating effect.
Cascades
Being a Scatter Pays slot, payouts are awarded when 7 or more matching symbols appear anywhere in view. Winning symbols trigger the Cascade feature, with winning symbols removed and new symbols dropping in to replace them. This process continues as long as wins are formed.
Multiplier Blocks

Every position on the grid has its own multiplier. Applying to the symbol’s win, the multiplier increases when the position is part of a win, is affected by Cell Search or by xSplit.
Every increase doubles the multiplier, up to 128x in the base game.
Enhancer Cells
San Quentin Manhunt uses Enhancer Cells, like other Nolimit City games including Bangkok Hilton, Mental 2 and The Rave. Above and below the grid, you will see locked Enhancer Cell positions. Each position spins independently of the grid.
When unlocked, the reveal a prisoner or feature symbol (except the Guard Tower Bonus Scatter). Feature symbols include:
- Cake Buster: It unlocks a locked grid position and reveals a Wild symbol. If no locked grid position remains, a random grid position is turned Wild.
- xWays: It transforms into a Prisoner symbol and reveals 2 to 4 symbols of the same kind. If more than 1 Ways symbol lands, all Ways symbols will reveal the same symbol.
- xSplit: It doubles all Multiplier Block values on its column and converts itself into a Prisoner symbol.
- Yard Dealer: It randomly selects an low-value object symbol on the grid and converts it into a higher-paying object symbol. It then converts itself into a Prisoner symbol.
- Cell Search: It gets activated when there is no win. It then collects the lowest-paying object symbol, adding a multiplier to itself for each collected symbol, and then converting into a Wild. The multiplier values on the collected positions are doubled.
Guard Tower Bonus
With the Guard Tower Bonus Scatter landing on columns 2 to 5, landing any Bonus Scatter in the base game will unlock Enhancer Cells on its respective column. Landing 3 or 4 Guard Tower Bonus Scatter will trigger the Sewer Escape or Manhunt Spins feature, respectively.
Sewer Escape Spins
Before the free spins begin, the Bonus Setup Mode sets the number of free spins: every +1 symbol that lands adds 1 free spin to your tally. All locked columns benefit from a random sticky multiplier of 2x up to 16x.
With unlocked Enhancer states carried over from the base game, Multiplier Block values will not reset between free spins and are capped at 128x. Unlocked grid positions remain unlocked throughout the feature and 2, 3 or 4 Bonus Scatters will award 2, 3 or 4 extra free spins, respectively.
Manhunt Spins

In the Manhunt Spins feature, you benefit from the same extras the Sewer Escape Spins feature but with Multiplier Block values capping at 512x.
Also, corner Enhancer Cells unlock once all locked positions on the grid in their respective corners are unlocked.
Nolimit Booster
San Quentin Manhunt comes with 4 Nolimit Booster options:
- Bonus Booster: Costing 2.5 x bet, you are guaranteed 1+ Bonus Scatter. The RTP is 96.07%.
- 2x Bonus Booster: Costing 10 x bet, you are guaranteed 2+ Bonus Scatters. The RTP is 96.08%.
- 2x Bonus + Open 64x Booster: Costing 150 x bet, you are guaranteed 2+ Bonus Scatters plus initial multiplier value of 64x on unlocked grid positions. The RTP is 96.06%.

Expert Verdict

San Quentin Manhunt takes the San Quentin series in a whole new direction, combining Enhancer Cells, xWays, doubling Multiplier Block values and free spins for a unique Scatter Pays experience for up to 46,532 x bet max wins.
If you’re a fan of previous San Quentin games, the San Quentin Manhunt slot takes the series in a new direction. For starters, it’s played on a grid with Scatter Pays payouts rather than traditional reels and ways to win. Yes, it does share the same prison theme and features Beefy Dick but the visuals are different as they are from a bird’s eye view. The soundtrack I must say is excellent and very compelling, especially in the free spins features.
In terms of the gameplay, there are cascades and Enhancer Cells that lead to doubling multiplier blocks, up to 128x. Nolimit City has added more variation to the Enhancer Cell feature symbols with the addition of Yard Dealers and Cell Searches: I quite like the Yard Dealer as this upgrades a low-value symbol into a higher-value one.
With 2 free spins modes, the Bonus Setup Mode takes place to award free spins with locked columns benefitting from a random sticky multiplier up to 16x. In the Manhunt Spins feature, multiplier block values can reach 512x as opposed to 128x in the Sewer Spins feature and base game. Also, you can unlock corner Enhancer Cells allowing for more prisoner or feature symbols.
With 46,532 x bet max wins, the max win potential is significantly lower than the 150,000 x bet in San Quentin xWays or 200,000 x bet in San Quentin 2: Death Row.
Despite the much lower max win potential, San Quentin Manhunt differs drastically in terms of gameplay with a focus on Multiplier Block values and more Enhancer Cell feature symbols. The key to winning big is combining the high multiplier block values and carrying them through to the free spins modes and then land various, consecutive wins to build them up even further. The xWays mechanic takes Scatter Pays to a whole new level, allowing for more possibilities of landing 7+ matching symbols in view.
I do love how Nolimit City has created a unique Scatter Pays slot that is very different to anywhere else out there. Yes, it doesn’t offer the win potential of previous San Quentin slots but this change in direction is well worth breaking out of prison for.
