Overview
The Folsom Prison slot is another prison-themed game from Nolimit City with the second visit to jail set in the 1880-established Folsom State Prison. Folsom State Prison is the second oldest prison after San Quentin, which Nolimit City also made a game themed on and the first in the USA to have electricity.
As with many of these latest releases from Nolimit City, this game has an extreme volatility rating which means there won’t be as frequent hits but when it does it’s usually big.
The Max Win in Folsom Prison is 75,000x with Nolimit City never shrinking when it comes to massive Max Wins on their games with the other prison game from them, San Quentin xWays, having 150,000x Max Win.
There are two Bonus Features in Folsom Prison with 3 scatter symbols in the base game triggering 8 Walk The Line spins. 4 Scatter symbols lands 8 The Chair spins which is the super bonus in this game.

Test Comments
Very little happened in this 100 spin test of NoLimit City's Folsom prison slot, providing just a 23.3% RTP against the theoretical 96%+ - With just 24 Winning spins from 100 tested, taking a little over 7 minutes, the return average £1 per win, with the biggest base game win coming in at 7x
There were 3 bonus baits, but outside of that, this was one of the most uneventful 100 spin test slot reviews I have yet to undertake.
However, we have to consider this is indicative of the volatility level of this slot, which NoLimit City have set at 'INSANE'!

Graphics, Music, and Sound Effects
Instantly as you load into Folsom Prison you realise that Nolimit City has gone for a grittier look at the US prison system compared to their San Quentin xWays game which was much brighter. Folsom Prison’s main logo features a prisoner with Cash tattooed on his forehead, seemingly supposed to be Johnny Cash, who sang about Folsom Prison Blues all the way back in 1955.
Folsom Prison uses a Johnny Cash inspired soundtrack to really set the mood for you in this one with the classic Cash guitar noise the backing track here. A Johnny Cash sounding singer feeds you with lines from his songs too including “Bad luck wind been blowing at my back” from Cash song Thirteen.
The main premium symbols in this game look to be various prisoners in Folsom Prison. Wild and Cockroach Nest symbols are also common in this game. The cockroach wilds can go anywhere in Folsom Prison but their nest opens up in the positions on the 3 middle reels. Any locked cell on the reels that they go over opens up. That starting position for the cockroach turns into a wild with multipliers added to any symbol that it passes over.
Key Features
As with all of our slot game reviews it’s important that we go through the different features in the game so that we really get to grips with it before we play.
We’ll go through the Folsom Prison theme as well as telling you the best features in the game.
Theme – Prison
Folsom Prison follows a similar theme that we’ve seen in slots before and does fully feel like the sequel to San Quentin xWays in terms of a similar style to the game.
The game throws itself into the Johnny Cash theme with his style of music and even the main character in the game having CASH Tattooed across his forehead.
There is a feature in this game called Toast Bet which costs 20% extra on top of your normal stake. What this does though is guarantees you a scatter symbol on the second reel to give you an even greater chance of landing the bonus.
You’ll see basic symbols of 10, J, Q, K and A in this game with Premium Symbols featuring different inmates from Folsom Prison.
Cockroaches play a big part in Folsom Prison with their nests always spawning in the open positions in the middle 3 reels or transformed from a Scatter symbol. The starting position of the cockroach is replaced by a wild, with the cockroach walking all over the reels adding multipliers to any symbol that it passes over. Cockroach nest symbols can land in the bonus but they aren’t active until the Cockroach walks over it, with that Cockroach then carrying further multipliers.
Reels
Folsom Prison features 5 reels & 2-2-2-2-0 rows.
Paylines
There are 16-46664 paylines in Folsom Prison.
RTP
As with every slot game one of the most important bits of information is the Return to Player and it’s no different with Folsom Prison. The RTP in this game is 96.07%.
As always this percentage is not the same everywhere and online casinos often alter these figures according to their current policies. To spare you the trouble, we shared a list of UK casinos where you can play this game and the respective RTPs found there.
For an even more informed decision, we advise you to check our reviews and read about the casino's welcome bonuses and deals, game libraries, customer care, payment options, and other things available in each casino.

Stake Range
The stake range will always vary from different sites with some capping the stake with its INSANE volatility but the Nolimit City site states stakes from 20p to £120.
Max Win
The Folsom Prison online slot limits the maximum win at 75000x the player’s bet. This then shows you the Meet Your Maker max win screen.
Free Spins
There are two free spin bonuses available in Folsom Prison with the base free spins given the name of Walk The Line. These free spins start with the centre 2-4-4-4-2 rows open and a minimum of 1 guaranteed cockroach. This bonus is triggered by landing 3 scatter symbols with 8 spins awarded.
The second bonus is the so-called ‘Super’ bonus called The Chair which is trigged by ladning 4 scatter symbols in the base game, with each spin starting with the centre 4-4-4-4-4 rows open and a minimum of 3 cockroaches guaranteed. You can also get into The Chair bonus by landing a scatter symbol on reel 5 in the Walk The Line bonus.
Jackpot
The Folsom Prison online slot game doesn’t have a jackpot prize but does have a Max Win of 75,000x available to be won in a single spin.
OLBG has a page where you can find the best jackpot slot games if you are genuinely interested in such titles with big jackpots available.
Play Experience & First Impressions
The Folsom Prison experience is a great one with the game instantly getting that classic Nolimit City vibe to it with xWays, xSplit and xBet features all adding to what is another strong release. The Toast Bet feature where you can decide to pay an extra 20% on top of your stake for a guaranteed scatter symbol makes you feel like you’re getting value for that extra money which is always a bonus.
The volatility score of Insane in this one is evident while you’re spinning with wins rare to come about, but that does make a difference with those extra toast bet spins with the guaranteed scatter giving you a better chance of landing wins. The xWays and xSplit symbols though definitely enhanced the game as well as the Cockroach feature which is one that really feels new and fresh.
With San Quentin offering 150,000 times bet max wins, it was always going to be hard for the Folsom Prison to be perceived in the same way. However, this game has used features from that one and ran with them in style. Similar to San Quentin though the prison bars at the top and bottom of the reels being closed regularly can make you feel like you’re missing so much. When they eventually open on win spins though you get to really see the potential that this game has.
