Q: You’ve just launched the next instalment in your hugely popular ‘Pigs’ series. Tell us more about 3 Pigs of the Caribbean and what players can expect when they set sail?
VP: “3 Pigs of the Caribbean is the most ambitious instalment in our hit ‘Pigs’ series and follows the runaway success of 3 Pigs of Olympus. It sees the notorious trio return, this time for a high-seas escapade packed with charm, humour and plenty of treasure-filled potential.
Players set sail through sun-drenched islands where every spin has the potential to unlock an untold fortune. Players must hoist the sails for the Hold & Win bonus game where the pirate pigs dig for gleaming Prize Coins. The Hold & Win feature is triggered by landing six or more Prize Coin symbols or a combination of Prize and Pig Coins - once activated, players ride the waves of a bonus round that can expand to a 5x5 grid and where every spin offers new treasures to uncover. Each of the three Pig Coins brings its own brand of mischief and reward: the Red Pig expands the grid and adds new win possibilities, the Yellow Pig boosts prizes with multipliers of up to x10 and can award random values of up to 100 x the total bet, while the Blue Pig adds extra respins and can also deliver random values of up to 100 x the bet.
Adding to the chaos is the Mystery Pig, which can transform into any of the three Pig Coins to trigger surprise upgrades mid-bonus. Meanwhile, the Collector Chest feature keeps the base game brimming with activity, scooping up the values of Prize Coin symbols as they land. Then the brand-new Prize Gem system adds long-term treasure hunting to the mix, with four collectible tiers: Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand - each unlocked through colour-coded progress bars. When a bar is filled, a matching Prize Gem drops onto the grid, delivering a haul worthy of the high seas.”
Q: 3 Pigs of the Caribbean is a bonus-heavy game. What made you amp up the action in this way?
VP: “Because we know that players of our games want to be put on the edge of their seats with big bonus action, spin after spin. 3 Pigs of the Caribbean is our most bonus-heavy game to date, and is the result of listening to feedback on each slot we release.
We always look at the data coming in from each game, as well as emerging player trends, and reflect this in the latest titles leaving our production line. 3 Pigs of the Caribbean does this through the Hold & Win bonus, which is hugely popular right now, which we’ve combined with Grid Expansions, Respins, Multipliers, Upgraders and of course our new Prize Gem system.
In addition to this, we’ve included 243 payways and jacked the volatility to full mast. This makes for a compelling, white-knuckle ride that we know our players will enjoy.”
Q: How have you ensured 3 Pigs of the Caribbean is different to the original title, but still recognisable as being part of the Pigs series?
VP: “This is the biggest challenge with a slot series. Each game needs to be instantly recognisable as being part of the franchise, but sufficiently different to entice players to take it for a spin. So how have we done that with 3 Pigs of the Caribbean? It starts with the three pig characters, which are carried over from 3 Pigs of Olympus. This is the biggest indicator that these games are part of the same franchise.
Then we have the title, which is also similar, and the look and feel of the game which aligns with the original. In terms of making it stand out from the first game, 3 Pigs of the Caribbean takes a totally different theme and then we have the unique combination of bonus features, including the Prize Gem system which is new. This is the approach we will take with all games in the series, with the next already in the works.”
Q: 3 Pigs of Olympus is your most successful game of the year. What made it such a hit with players?
VP: “That’s a great question and one that I can only answer in part. Studios always set out to create an epic slotting experience, but sometimes a game just hits differently, and that’s certainly been the case with 3 Pigs of Olympus. That said, it had the hallmarks of an epic slot from the get-go, so a standout theme, likeable characters, striking design, punchy audio and a great combination of bonus features that work together to build anticipation and then deliver plenty of big wins.
As far as blueprints go, it was always going to be a cracking game on paper but you never know how players will respond until it hits casino lobbies and they fire up the reels for the first time. As soon as they did, we could sit that it was hitting the mark with players way beyond what we expected prior to go-live.”
