- Kane now leads the SPOTY market at 13/8, with Bellingham up to 6/1
- Defending champion Rory McIlroy (5/1), darts sensation Luke Littler (12/1) and Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson (12/1) round out a stacked six-way market
England's Azteca Heroics Shake Up the SPOTY Market
Anyone browsing UK betting sites this morning will have noticed some serious movement in the 2026 BBC Sports Personality of the Year market, and it's not hard to see why.
In the early hours, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham inspired a 10-man England to a 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, a thrilling round-of-16 clash in which Bellingham scored twice inside 98 seconds, and Kane converted a second-half penalty to send the Three Lions through to the World Cup quarter-finals.
England became the first team ever to beat Mexico at the Azteca in a World Cup match, and they did it despite playing the majority of the second half a man down following Jarell Quansah's red card.
William Hill now have Kane as the clear favourite for the SPOTY award, with Jude Bellingham's odds coming down to just 5/1.
The Current State of Play
Here's how William Hill's SPOTY market reads following England's win:
| 2026 BBC Sports Personality of the Year | Odds | Implied Probability |
|---|---|---|
| Harry Kane | 13/8 | 38.1% |
| Rory McIlroy | 5/1 | 16.7% |
| Jude Bellingham | 6/1 | 14.3% |
| Matt Weston | 7/1 | 12.5% |
| Luke Littler | 12/1 | 7.7% |
| Keely Hodgkinson | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Kane's move to the top of the market makes plenty of sense given the stakes. If England go on to win the World Cup for the first time since 1966, it would be almost impossible for voters to look past their captain.
Bellingham's odds have also shortened sharply, and with the pair set to face Erling Haaland's Norway in the quarter-finals, there's every chance this market keeps moving before the year is out.
Weston, McIlroy follow in market
It's worth remembering, though, that Matt Weston isn't just making up the numbers.
The Surrey skeleton racer became a household name after winning two gold medals at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, a performance that made him the outright favourite for large parts of the year.
Reigning champion Rory McIlroy, fresh off completing the career Grand Slam and leading Europe to Ryder Cup glory in 2025, remains very much in the conversation too, while Luke Littler and Keely Hodgkinson give the market real strength in depth heading into a busy back half of the sporting calendar.
