Bookies now go 9/1 that there's a referendum on the Monarchy at some point before 2025
Royal Family betting continues to grow in popularity with the monarchy having a new King and that continues here with bookmakers still offering odds on a potential referendum on the Monarchy.
The passing of Queen Elizabeth II triggered a YouGov poll which showed a nine point increase in the desire for a referendum with support growing for a vote against the Monarchy.
This has also been shown in the betting odds with the Smarkets now saying there's an 9/1 chance of a referendum in the UK on the monarchy before 2025.
These odds suggest there's an 10% chance of it happening with the odds changing slightly since the Coronation of King Charles III back in May.
To hold referendum on abolishing the Monarchy | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Australia to hold referendum | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Canada to hold referendum | 3/1 | 25.0% |
UK to hold referendum | 9/1 | 11.1% |
What the expert says..
Canada and Australia's odds shorten further from 4/1 to 3/1 and 2/1 respectively
Referendum's look to have more of a chance in Canada and Australia with the latest betting odds shortening for the monarchy to be voted on in those countries in the next couple of years.
Australia announced back in February that the new $5 bill in the country will not feature the image of King Charles III with the phasing out of British monarchy on it's bank notes beginning.
Reports in May from abacus data say that 2 in 3 Canadians would vote to eliminate the monarchy in Canada with only 4% of those Canadians following King Charles III's coronation very closely.
Royal Family betting specials are common including odds around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle constantly have betting odds around their future with the world's eyes on the couple throughout the last few years.
Reports from the Daily Mail this week say that Harry's relationship with his father and brother are at an all time low with no plans to meet up when Harry comes to the UK in September.
As always any reports around Harry's frosty relationship with his family brings odds that him and Meghan could split with the latest odds at 12/1 that the pair decide to call it quits this year.
The betting market though says there's a 98% chance that they don't split in 2023 with the current odds as short as 1/80 that the pair stay together.
Will Harry and Meghan divorce in 2023? | Odds | Probability |
