Boris Johnson is 7/4 to be the next Prime Minster after Liz Truss stepped down on Thursday

UK politics reached another low on Thursday with Conservative leader and Prime Minister Liz Truss resigning after just 45 days in office.

Those 45 days made her the shortest-serving PM in UK history and bookies are giving odds on who will replace Truss as the Next Prime Minister.

Betway give Boris Johnson a 36% chance of taking over with reports that he will run for the seat just a couple of months after he resigned himself.

Next Prime Minister Odds Probability
Rishi Sunak 7/10 58.8%
Boris Johnson 7/4 36.4%
Penny Mordaunt 11/2 15.4%
Ben Wallace 25/1 3.8%

Johnson's odds have slowly tumbled with him moving from 9/4 to 7/4 in overnight and it may well be he gets voted in again.

It's hard to see how he will do though considering a decent chunk of his party gave him a no confidence vote just two months ago.

Boris Johnson is now 7/4 to make a shock return as Prime Minister with his odds continuing to tumble in the last 24 hours!

Rishi Sunak is the outright favourite at 7/10 to be the permanent successor to Truss

Rishi Sunak was originally head-to-head against Liz Truss in the Conservative Leader vote but Truss came out trumps at the start of September.

Truss had 57.4% of the vote by Conservative members compared to Sunak's 42.6% but it may well be that Rishi leads the way now.

Bookies make Sunak the 7/10 favourite to be the permanent successor to Truss in becoming the next Prime Minister.

With the drama currently taking place in and around Number 10 it's no surprise that there are calls for a General Election.

According to betting odds by Smarkets, there's a 69.2% chance that we see the next General Election take place in 2024 of later.

It's 15/1 that there's a General Election in 2022 with just a 6.2% chance that we see one at some point this year.

There's just a 6% chance that we see a General Election at some point this year despite calls for one across the public and from political analysts.
