I've spent over 20 years inside the betting industry. I'll guide you to avoid the hype, ignore the noise, and steer clear of the common pitfalls that catch out everyday punters.

  • Lineker told to step down from hosting duties
  • Alan Shearer walked out in Solidarity
  • Jermaine Jenas was previous 2/1 favourite to be the next presenter of MOTD after Gary Lineker

With news breaking that Gary Lineker has been asked to step down as host of MOTD for tomorrow nights show at least, and with co-stars walking out in support, it is only natural that UK bookmakers are expected to reopen the Next presenter of Match of the Day betting markets.

Previously we covered this story when Lineker stopped presenting the Champions League fixtures, and at the time Jermaine Jenas was tipped at 2/1 to be the favourite to take over with Alex Jones not far behind in the betting.

Things have progressed from Tweets made regarding the new government asylum policy. Lineker is not shy of making his political views known on the social platform, but may have gone a step too far on this occasion.

Lineker was expected to quit before his contract was up in 2025 anyway

Lineker was expected to quit before his contract is up in 2025. One show Co-host Jermaine Jenas is 2/1 favourite with betting sites Alex Scott is 7/2 with bookmakers to be first Female lead presenter on Match of the Day

After quitting the Champions League show position, some betting sites were going odds-on that Gary Lineker would not see out the remainder of his contract to host Match of the Day on the BBC which is in place until 2025.

It looks like they were shrewd odds from betting sites and the speculation could come to pass.
