Line of Duty Series 7 Betting Specials Released As BBC Confirm Return Of Hit Police Drama

After years of speculation, Line of Duty is officially back.

The BBC confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series of the critically acclaimed police drama will begin filming in spring 2026, with Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure, and Martin Compston all set to reprise their roles as the iconic AC-12 trio.

Written by Jed Mercurio, the new six-part series will once again be set in Belfast and is expected to air late 2026 or early 2027, though no premiere date has yet been confirmed.

Following the announcement, a number of betting specials have begun circulating online, as fans and punters speculate over plot twists, character fates, and possible returns from long-forgotten villains.

What Could Be Next for AC-12?

Series 6 wrapped in 2021 by unmasking DS Ian Buckells as the elusive “H”, but many fans were left underwhelmed, prompting speculation that the real puppet master could still be out there.

While that arc seemed closed, the door is open for Osborne, Carmichael, or another senior figure to emerge as a lingering threat.

There’s also the question of the AC-12 trio’s futures.

Will Steve Arnott (Compston) return to undercover work despite his trauma? Could Kate Fleming (McClure) once again be caught in the crossfire? And might Ted Hastings (Dunbar) finally cross a line?

The BBC has not revealed anything about the storyline, but the betting experts and fans alike are already theorising.
