Bookmakers go 8/11 that 2023 is the hottest year that is ever recorded following heatwaves around Europe
July saw world temperature records broken with July 4th recorded as the hottest day on record across the world with the average global temperature hitting 17.18C.
Data from the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction say that the average global air temperature surpassed the previous record set back in 2026.
Following this news, bookmakers now make it 8/11 that we see the yearly temperature record be broken with further warm weather expected through August.
The practice of maintaining modern records began in 1880 and 2020 saw the global average surface temperature tied with 2016 as the hottest year ever documented.

NASA's GISTEMP Surface Temperature Analysis shows the temperature based on the land-ocean reading that is given on the climate.nasa.gov site.
NASA's website says, "NASA's full dataset of global surface temperatures through 2022, as well as full details with code of how NASA scientists conducted the analysis, are publicly available from GISS.
GISS is a NASA laboratory managed by the Earth Sciences Division of the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The laboratory is affiliated with Columbia University's Earth Institute and School of Engineering and Applied Science in New York."
