- Tom Hardy and Rege-Jene Page Vie for Favouritism
- Former long-term favourite Idris Elba out to 7/1
- Lashana Lynch 6/1 to be the first woman Bond
Following the massive success of Netflix series Bridgerton, British actor Regé-Jean Page has been slowly backed in throughout 2021 to be the next James Bond. Sitting at odds of 5/1 back in March when Bridgerton’s success really hit it’s peak, odds of 2/1 now see the star compete with Tom Hardy at the front of the market.
Some bookmakers have Hardy as favourite whilst others go with Page. This is a tight race for 007 with both actors given a 50/50 chance between them, but there are still other contenders.
Lashana Lynch is the Most Likely First Woman Bond
Lashana Lynch is set to star in the latest Bond film No Time To Die and rumours suggest that her character Nomi could be referred to by the ‘007’ moniker in the film.
This could be part of the reason why bookmakers are offering odds of 6/1 to be the next Bond, with a woman Bond being mooted every time the current actor at the time moves on from the role.
Idris Elba has long been considered as a possible for the role, but as the bookmakers make his chance slimmer and slimmer, so the possibility of Lashana Lynch following in the footsteps of Jodie Whittaker who became the first female Dr Who, become stronger and stronger.
Although there would have to be an obvious name change from Ian Fleming's legendary character
Page would be the 2nd Youngest Bond Ever After George Lazenby's Single Appearance.
When looking into the Bond market, you could be forgiven to look at some of the actors in the odds and think they may be a bit old to be jumping around in an action film as 007, but keep in mind that Daniel Craig was 37 when Casino Royale debuted.
If Regé-Jean Page was to be the next Bond at the age of 31 years, he would be the youngest 007 since 30 year old George Lazenby starred in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, his only Bond film.
No Time to Die But Time is Getting On
The latest Bond film, No Time To Die, was originally scheduled for release in April 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic across the world has been put back twice now, with the latest release date set for September 2021. This means that there will more than likely be a new Bond announced soon with Daniel Craig leaving.
Tom Hardy is Still the Favourite to Replace Daniel Craig
Tom Hardy has been there or thereabouts in the betting for a significant amount of time, with the British public seemingly liking Hardy in the role. It’s fair to say that Daniel Craig has been a success in the role, with 2012 film Skyfall the highest-grossing Bond film of all time. Whoever comes up next is going to have huge shoes to fill.
