Labour are the clear favourites to win next month's Blackpool South By-Election
Betting is now available on the upcoming Blackpool South By-Election with bookies putting Labour clear in the market to win at the polls.
Labour are the clear favourites at 1/100 to win the By-Election with their odds shortening even further from the 1/20 that they were last month.
The By-Election follows the resignation of Blackpool South MP Scott Benton who was originally suspended for 35-days due to breaching the House's rules.
This had led to a recall petition being called but that was terminated following Benton's suspension and now Smarkets are offering odds on who wins the By-Election.
Blackpool South By-Election | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Labour | 1/100 | 99.0% |
Conservative | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Reform UK | 16/1 | 5.9% |
Green Party | 20/1 | 4.8% |
Liberal Democrats | 20/1 | 4.8% |
What the expert says..
Scott Benton resigned from his role back on March 25
Back in April 2023, The Times published an article which alleged that Scott Benton was willing to take questions, leak documents and lobby ministers on behalf of gambling companies.
That would have been in return for thousands of pounds per month and he was then subsequently suspended as an MP from the Conservative Party.
Eventually Benton resigned himself as an MP on 25 March which terminated the recall petition that was trigged due to his original suspension which now means the By-Election will take place on 2 May.

Labour won By-Elections in Kingswood and Wellingborough back in February
Two big By-Election wins were made by Labour in February in Kingswood and Wellingborough with the Conservatives crushed at the polls.
Majorities of over 11,000 and 19,000 were overturned by Labour candidates in Kingswood and Wellingborough respectively in the two February By-Elections.
Big swings of 16% and 28% took place in the polls which dealt a hammer blow to Rishi Sunak and strengthened Sir Keir Starmer's role as Labour leader ahead of this year's General Election.
