7:15 Newcastle Tips

Miss Nightfall looks like a classic example of how James Fanshawe prepares and produces his decent fillies. He gives them all the time they need, rarely overfaces them, and puts them in the right races when they are ready. Miss Nightfall has shown plenty of promise in all three races this season so far, and looks ready to strike. Let's hope it's here.

Eldrickjones has won three times over course and distance, the last being in May off a mark of 82. He has been placed 3 times in 4 starts since, and although up another 2 lbs, he looks sure to go well again and looks like a good EW bet with 4 places on offer.

A previous C/D winner, this one ran well in the Lincoln when a close runner-up. Not over-raced this season and looks like it could get involved here at decent odds.

Preference here goes to the Richard Hannon runner, Witch Hunter. Very good 4-year-old that's not been in the same form this year. Switches back to the AW with a bit to prove, but he's coming off a break and that may just freshen him up in mind and body. Ran well in a Listed event at Wolverhampton behind Royal Zabeel in March. That's a 110-rated horse now and given level draws he only had 2lb to find. That leaves him well treated if in the same mood. Acts on the surface and he looks the overall pick on form. Wide draw to contend with and that may be a sticking point, but at the prices, he looks an interesting each-way poke.

Must have an each-way chance at 14/1 and 4 places. Back down to 7f and finished strongly when placed in the International at Ascot. Richard Fahey has a good Newcastle record and a good chance for The North to get some points with the selection.

I'm rather surprised to see Tolstoy taking his chances here because he ran up three wins at York last summer. Saying that, the 6-year-old has just had the one run here at Newcastle last August, where he stayed on to get up late to win by a neck off today's mark. He ran an excellent second off a pound lower mark four runs ago, and a repeat of that should see him go close.

They are dropping this one down in class/grade and returning it back to the AW with a good jockey booking/change. A good value each way bet for the 4 places available.

12/1 (4 places) for AL SHABAB STORM looks huge value to me. The Advertise gelding has ran well in defeat on his two starts on the AW so far this year; finishing 3/4l 3rd of 7 at Wolvo and 1/2l 3rd of 12 at the same venue last month. He’s running off a career-high mark but has shown to be a class operator on his day so you can’t be discounting him and Advertise’s 19% SR (A/E 1.51) on triangle-shaped courses is another reason for optimism.

Finally ended a shocking losing run when winning at Haydock last month and now only 2lbs higher than that winning mark. Also has course experience which should help.

Proven on the track. In fact, ran one of his best races when runner-up over course and distance on penultimate start after 9 months off. Had excuses last time from a poor draw and on softer than ideal ground. Looks to have a decent each-way chance here.

Short Final makes his first appearance for trainer Stuart Williams after showing promise in a German Group 3 and finishing first last time out. Recent form and trainer switch make him a speculative player for those seeking value in a competitive field.

MISTER BLUEBIRD finished second last time out in a Class 2 over 7 furlongs at Chepstow. The horse was only beaten by a neck.
