Grant Wood is very proficient on the AW and at this distance. It also has a clean profile with no chaos flags picked up.

The 4yo has 2 wins from 7. He was a good 4th of 14 over this 6f C/D last month. That was a debut for a new yard and he was coming off a five-month break. It was a useful handicap and he did win the race on his side of the track. Same mark tonight and another step forward is very possible.

This horse drops into a Class Three for the first time in nearly three years. Races from what should be a competitive mark with Hollie Doyle booked. A decent fourth in a better race here last month, so there are signs things might be about to click. Every chance.

Did best of those that were prominent when fifth last time out. That was a strongly run race that day, and he did well to finish where he did. A weaker-run race should see him in the frame. He has put in some consistent efforts and has a decent draw to help.

The Caltonian had a cracking C2 win here in Jan under Kieran O'Neill, even after getting hampered just after the start. Last time out he had no race at all after a duff start in a C3 at 5f , and I think the return to 6f could see him bounce back with Kieran again.

Ruth Carr's Newcastle stats read 42 wins (10%) and 108 places (26%) from 421. She hasn't been getting that many winners over the past few months, but her last 20 runners have provided 2 wins and seven places, which shows the yard is starting to go the right way. This looks a tight handicap, with only 3 points separating all those with Timeform ratings (there's a ? against William Dewhurst), and Cajetan is just 2 points behind the top-rated Evening Saigon and, although disappointing since his stable debut 3rd in February, the twice C&D winner is 5 lb lower than his last winning mark. Blinkers go on for the first time. We could have an upset at big odds here.

This 6-year-old is a specialist here, having achieved 6 of his 8 lifetime victories on AW. Despite a recent disappointing run, he shows strong potential over 6f and has fallen to a competitive rating. His trainer, Ben Haslam, is in good form at the moment, making the 28/1 odds a valuable opportunity for an each-way wager.
