Classy sort from the Haggas yard who could be way better than this field. Progressive at the start of the turf season, winning 3 times before a solid 7th in a class 2 at York. Had a couple of months off before a solid 3rd on soft ground at Newbury in a big field class 3 handicap. Should build on that here and with jockey claim running from last winning mark.

The 4yo hasn’t been great in his last five starts, but they have all been on turf in quality handicap races. His last AW run came during May over this 6f C/D, in a strong class 2 handicap against rivals rated 89-105, and was a very close 2nd of 13. No rival rated above 89 in this class 3 handicap and he now has an 8lb lower mark.

This horse makes his debut for a new stable here that does well with their handicappers. They've shrewdly booked William Carver for the ride, who has a 22% strike rate around here. This is the horse's AW debut, and the last 3 runs on turf have been very much a step in the right direction, having raced fairly poorly in the races prior to those. He's running off an attractive mark of 79, having raced off marks in the 80s in the whole of last year (winning one). That win last year was at around this time of year, and he looks decent value to me.

Stratusnine looks to have been handed a low and generous handicap mark, and this inmate of Hugo Palmer has form when running from a long break. Our nap of the day.

The Caltonian has not won for over a year but has won 5 times at this track up to now. Back to his last winning mark, taking the apprentice 5lb allowance into consideration.

The Turpinator (IRE) is an 8-year-old gelding by Canford Cliffs, trained by Grant Tuer. He’s set to be ridden by Pierre-Louis Jamin. Hes an obvious outsider in this field tomorrow but the drop back to 6f here at Newcastle where he won in April off a mark off 83 should suit. Hes running off 79 tomorrow so hes better off in the weights. Jockey has a 14% win and 30% place strike rate in the last 6 months and ive been liking his riding style on these big prices Oriental prince and maelstrom look like the ones to beat upfront and mr cool going up in class to potentially run a big race from (5) but the bigger value stands with The turpinator with the drop in trip and weight combo

Heavenly Heather won here last year at 200/1 and, to be fair, hasn't run too badly since. Back below that winning mark, she could easily play a big part.
