2:25 Doncaster Tips

Air Force One has been in good form, and was only narrowly beaten at York last weekend. The first two were nicely ahead of the rest, which gives the form a strong look. This five and a half furlong looks ideal, and I can see him going very close again.

There should be 6 places available, and at 8/1, I'd be very surprised if this horse doesn't get in the frame given how unexposed he is. Still a colt and still very unexposed, being one of the only 3-year-olds (which could be fairly overwhelming, the only concern). The pace in this race will be extremely strong, and I think with this horse's best run being at a stiff 6f with what looked like more to offer shows it'll have the stamina for this. The fact it'll more than likely be around the mid-pack also helps, as horses coming off the pace will be advantaged. Clive Cox hasn't won this race yet, and with this, it could be his turn.

Mulrennan got it oh so wrong first up at York but almost got it right a few days later. But that looked too far? Back to the 5f for its visit here and surely he would have learned. Maybe.

Only 1-24 on turf but has been running fairly consistently since arriving on these shores with Robert Cowell and has been placed in some hot sprint handicaps of late. Needs a bit more for win purposes but should be in the mix once again.

Apollo One has had a tough task this season, running in competitive handicaps from marks in the high 100s and twice pitched into pattern company. Hasn't been disgraced without troubling the judge and those efforts have seen his mark drop to 102. That's 1lb lower than when splitting American Affair and JM Jungle in this race last year and his draw (stall 10) looks ideal with front runners in 11 and 14. Wouldn't have been surprised if this was the plan ahead of a repeat effort at Ascot in October.

DIABLO ROJO still a colt could be a three year old able to bring his best on his first start for trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy who has an excellent record with getting the best from new recruits early once moved. This extended five furlong Portland renewal could work well for this prominent racer and representing leading owners Amo Racing previously placed in Group 3 company he appeals.

Rosario has only won once since his two-year-old days when, after winning his first race at Ffos Las, he was placed in Group 2 and Group 3 races. He has run mainly at five furlongs but was slowly away last time at Goodwood, finishing strongly in the last half furlong into 3rd place, and could appreciate the extra distance at Doncaster from his mark of 91.

This horse has better form on the all-weather but is well handicapped. His run last time out at Ripon was full of promise. Can cause a minor surprise here.

Back on the scoreboard at York in July and has picked up 2 more handicap wins recently. This determined competitor is still in good form, and can deliver another strong performance. An each-way bet at 18/1 looks great value.

Chipstead is excused last run when slowly away due to blindfold removal/stalls issue. Strong career form with 8 wins from 38 career starts, rated as high as 106 in the past. First past the post before disqualification in the 2022 renewal of this race off OR92 (OR95 today). Trainer Roger Teal (SR 21%) in good form. Big price at 50-1.

I'm not entirely sure why this horse is being written off as a 66/1 rag when the well-fancied Addison Grey (being backed at 7/1) was half a length behind this one at Chepstow in August, and KOL even gets a 6lb pull in the weights. Clearly, on that evidence, you'd have to say that he should be much shorter, especially since he is proven in this class with 2 wins and a place from 5 runs at this level. There are not many 66/1 shots you could say that about, and his sire has produced some good runners here this week.
