John Deere Classic Tips

Ben Griffin has won this season and is playing really well. He will love the low scoring around here. Not scared of shooting low, and this is a mega time to play well.

Jason tied for fourth place this past week. His short game was on display, and if he can match that again, then he should be in the top player contention.

Denny McCarthy is a safe top-6 pick, with three straight top-7s at Deere Run and eight top-25s in 2023. His elite SG: Putting (top-5) and 67.50 scoring average here capitalize on bentgrass greens. His consistency thrives in this weaker field.

Chris looks like a great bet given how well he has played in his last two events, finishing tied twelfth in the US Open and second last weekend in the Rocket.

The American won the John Deere Classic in 2022, and he was tied sixth in his defense twelve months later. 30th last year with a bad round in there, JT Poston knows his way around this course and can go low. I am backing the former winner will go close this week.

Kevin Yu is a value pick for top-6, with a T6 in 2023 and T20 last year at Deere Run. His top-5 SG: Off-the-Tee and recent putting gains (4/5 starts) suit the course’s birdie opportunities. A T4 at Myrtle Beach shows his form.

Michael Thorbjornsen is a rising star for a top-6 finish, with a T4 at the Rocket Classic and runner-up here last year. His strong SG: Off-the-Tee and birdie average (top-10) fit the course’s low-scoring nature. Momentum makes him a dangerous contender.

Davis Thompson, the 2024 champion, is a top-6 lock with a tournament-record 28-under. His top-10 at The Players Championship and strong SG: Approach (top-15) align with Deere Run’s demands. Recent top-20s and course history ensure he contends again.

Lucas comes back to an event where he won in 2021 and finished sixth two years later. It's obviously a course that suits his game, and he loves playing, so he could be up there once more this time round.

Luke Clanton, an amateur, rounds out the top-6 with a T2 here last year. His recent T16 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and strong SG: Approach make him a fit for this scorable course. His fearless play adds upside.

Getard is giving some impressive value here at 41 times. He is currently ranked third in the future fantasy projections.

Smaller is another golfer giving off some huge value for a top 6 finish. He has played well the first half of this year and is in the top 5 of fantasy projections.

At a fairly big price, I like the chances of Thorbjorn Olesen to at least place. He is a solid driver and has both the experience and game to take on this course and looks overpriced.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Andrew Putnam have a good tournament here. Played very well when finishing inside the top 10 in the Rocket Classic in his most recent event, he looks to be back in some better form now so he has a chance in my view. This is a course which should suit his game.

Christiaan took to this course very well on debut in 2022, finishing runner-up in the event. He finished strongly last week at the Travellers, finishing with a 69 and 66.

An elite putter with a T7 finish here last year and the best composite comp-course history in the field. His skillset is tailor-made for a low-scoring birdie-fest.

Lawrence is a very consistent player who finished second four times last year. His current form is good with a twelfth in the US Open and an eighth last weekend.

Possesses impeccable course history with two top-15s and five made cuts in five starts. His price reflects recent injury concerns, not his proven ability to contend at this specific venue.

A two-time 2024 winner priced as a longshot represents a colossal market inefficiency. His elite talent is being completely overlooked due to recent form in a historically high-variance event.

Sam Ryder will definitely need to find some improvement so this is a risky tip. Missed the cut the last twice but he didn't play all that badly, his overall game looked good. He's a player with ability who could be doing well if playing anything like his best form.

Although Carson Young did miss the cut in his most recent event, he played well at times and may do better now he's on a course that should be more suitable than his last. He was playing well earlier this year, he'll be doing well if he can get back to that sort of form.

Danny Willett has shown erratic form this year. Again, the former Masters winner has had a best of ninth place in the Farmers Open. He's a long shot but cannot be ignored.
