Scottish Championship Format
The Scottish Championship (currently known as the Ladbrokes Championship due to sponsorship) is the second tier of Scottish football and consists of 10 teams who play each other home and away twice so 36 league matches are played in total during the regular season, the champions are automatically promoted to the Scottish Premiership.
Reformed in 2013 as part of the Scottish Professional Football League merger between the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League, the promotion playoffs take place between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams at the end of the regular season, they are all two-legged affairs starting with the 3rd and 4th placed playing each other and the winner then playing the 2nd placed team. The winner then plays the team that finished 11th (second bottom) in the Scottish Premiership, over two legs to decide who plays in the Scottish Premiership.
The bottom club in the Scottish Championship is relegated to Scottish League One and the relegation playoff over two legs takes place between the 9th placed club (second bottom) and the winner of the Scottish League One promotion playoff to decide who will play in the Scottish Championship.
Betting tips are placed on the ante-post Scottish Championship Winner and Relegation markets before the season starts in August and along with individual match tips throughout the duration of the season which concludes in May.
In recent Scottish Championship seasons, the relegated team/s from the previous Scottish Premiership season as highlighted above have been popular predictions amongst the betting tips on the Scottish Championship Outright Winner market to make an instant return to the Scottish Premiership.
With the teams playing each other four times over the course of the season, there is plenty of head-to-head match form for betting tips and the bookie's odds will vary greatly whether you are betting singles or accumulators on the Full-Time match tip markets. When adding your betting tip predictions via the Betslip be sure to check out Ladbrokes on the best odds comparison as they sponsor the Scottish Championship.
