I reckon Wigan are a good bet to cover the handicap here in the opening Super 8's fixture against fellow top 4 side Huddersfield. The Warriors will be keen to start with a win and are a very tough side to play at home, Huddersfield have plenty of quality with the likes of Danny Brough and Jermain McGivelry but i think they will come up short in this one.

The Super League Super 8s showdown, Huddersfield finished 4th in the Super League with 28 points, winning 13 drawing 2 and losing 8 of their 23 matches played, winning their last match played 34-24 at home against Wakefield. Wigan finished 3rd in the Super League with 31 points, winning 15 drawing 1 and losing 7 of their 23 matches played, winning their last match played 12-48 away against Hull FC. This is a close match, both teams have won 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 matches played, Wigam come out on top in the last 5 head to heads 3-2 , winning the last 3 meetings on the trot, winning in June this year 18-32 24-16 in Feb and 57-4 in 2014, all 3 matches have been over a -8 handicap. I am therefore taking Wigan in the handicap with a -8 start to win this match today.

Wigan are undefeated at home in the Super League this season, and have gone 5 wins and 2 losses(Both away, St Helens R18, Warrington R20) over the months of June and July. This included a convincing away win,18-32, over Huddersfield in Round 17, which backed up their earlier Round 2, home,24-16, win over the Giants. Wigan pulverised Hull FC,12-48, away, in their last start, a match that saw Wigan at full strength and perform considerably better than their previous match against a desparate Widnes. Huddersfield stumbled their way to a 34-24 home win over Wakefield last start. Although suffering from injuries to key players after their match against Catalans, the round prior, Huddersfield should have still been able to win a lot better than they did against a Wakefield side that is heading for relegation. And after letting the Wildcats score 5 tries, Huddersfield may be in for a Footballing lesson against the Warriors, who look focused on regaining the Superleague title they lost to St Helens last year.
