And we have landed on the wrong side of a NoLimit Cuty slot for this 100 spin test in the review, with just a 31.9% return for our 100 spins. Althoguh the win frequency was just scraping into high territory with 22 wins, coming in at an average of just 1.45x per win and a high base game win of just 6.90x we felt the wrath of a NLC High volatility slot.

I have actually played this game extensively prior to this review, and it's not one I have found a great deal of joy with - I would simply advise treading carefully with this one.

From the name, you can probably guess what this game is about. When you start playing, the voiceover asks “So, you wanna be a gangsta?” in a strong New York drawl. This paints the picture of this entertaining mafioso story.

In addition to the Whacked Spins you can also enjoy the Lock ‘N’ Load bullets feature. Bullets will fire randomly at the high-paying character symbol on the reels. Any characters that are hit will be replaced by a Wild.

Mafia themes bring one hell of a story to life as we know from all of the gangster movies we’ve watched over the years. This game is certainly no different. Set in no-mans-land in the middle of the U.S. desert. The story takes place in an abanded garage where we’re guessing a fair bit of nefarious activity has taken place. 

The high-quality background image shows abandoned cars in this dodgy desert location. The reel imagery sets the scene with images of gangsters and their weapons of choice.

Funky 70s-style music plays in the background and there is also some traditional Italian music thrown in too. When the bonus round kicks in it displays a night scene where not much can be seen but the sound of gunfire can certainly be heard.

Theme – Mafia

As soon as you start playing, the (crime) story pieces together seamlessly. The cool 70s music kicks in and the crooks and their associates are presented on the reels.

There’s a selection of goodfellas on the grid, they depict the top five values. The mean-looking guy (they all look mean to be fair) with the tash and the orange background has the highest value. The lower-value images are represented by the tools of the trade for these bad guys. Starting off with a sawed-off shotgun, pistol, knuckle duster, knife and rope.

The Scatter Symbol shows a guy tied up in the boot of a car. The Wild Symbols and xWays symbols show their names on the image so are pretty self-explanatory.

During this round, coins hold a value times the base bet. All winnings during the spins will be added to the counter at the bottom of the reel which you’ll see clearly when you play. All collected values will be added together for a total win after the Whacked Spins bonus round ends.

If the xRevolver cylinder symbols lands, it will award one of 6 options within the cylinder. It can be one of the following symbols; Coin Value, xWays, xNudge or Russian Roulette. The xWays Symbol will expand to reveal three coin values. The coin values range from 1 to 20 x the bet. The xNudge Symbol will expand and award three multipliers of x1, x2 or x3 - depending on where it lands. For each nudge the symbol makes, it will award +1x on its multiplier. Russian Roulette can only be awarded from the xRevolver symbol. When the Russian Roulette is activated, the spins will be reset to three once again, but will not be able to reset again. Instead of adding up the winnings on each reel, the winnings will instead be multiplied with each other into a total win.

Play Experience & First Impressions

Like all Nolimity City games this one certainly grabs you from the word go. It’s instantly recognisable as a Nolimit City game from the edgy theme and design of the game. Their registered xFeatures are headliners here and add zest to the experience.

Nolimit City are such trailblazers in the slots industry, their style is instantly recognisable and they provide games which are innovative and sometimes dark and outrageous. This game certainly ticks the box in terms of storyline, imagery and music, the experience is certainly very enthralling.  The max win of 11,912x  is a decent amount. We weren’t sure of the significance of this number as most of the numbers in their games related to the story but nevertheless, it’s substantial.

The Lock ‘n’ Load Feature was excellent, it’s a collect feature based on wins that can build up nicely. Every time a winning combo occurs the next group of bullets will be loaded into the cylinder. The feature will activate once it's fully loaded with six bullets. You can whack up to six characters on the reel and they will be replaced by overlay Wilds which can lead to some solid wins.  If there are five or less high-paying symbols on the reels, the unused bullets will be saved in the cylinder for later.

xWays came up frequently when we were playing and was pretty nifty. When this triggers these special symbols will expand to 2- 4 symbols, creating half symbols. These half-symbol sizes pay the same as a normal-sized symbol.

There were not a lot of features in this game but the ones available were topnotch so it’s definitely a case of quality over quantity.

In the summary we asked ourselves if this game lives up to Nolimit City’s high standards and it’s definitely a resounding yes. We’ll be excited to see what they come up with next.

Playing this game is very immersive and got us in the mood to watch one of the classic mafia films. Umm, shall we watch Goodfellas or The Godfather Part II? Decisions, decisions.
