ClusterBreaker

The game, you guessed it, uses a ClusterBreaker feature. This mechanic randomly splits symbols into 2, 3 or even 4 matching symbols: this increases your chances of creating a winning cluster.

When a winning cluster is formed, the winning symbols are removed from the grid, with new symbols dropping in to fill the empty grid positions. These new symbols can become ClusterBreaker symbols, leading to more splits. Symbols that have already been split will not be split again.

Multiplier Wheel

With the Multiplier Wheel starting at 1x, the multiplier doubles each time a winning cluster is formed. Applying to the win before doubling, the multiplier can double up to 1024x.

Coin Caper Bonus

The Coin Caper Bonus feature is triggered by landing 5 Coin symbols anywhere on the grid. Beginning with 3 respins, every new Coin symbol that lands resets the respins tally back to 3.

When 5 or more Coins connect, they combine into a single high-value Coin, creating space for more drops. Every cluster of 5 Coins increases the multiplier ladder, doubling with each step up to 1024x. Also, Mr Midnight Jr targets unbroken Coins, splitting them into 2, 3 or 4 of the same value for bigger Coin clusters.

Brute Force

All winning symbols are collected and added to the Smash ‘N’ Gran Free Spins meter: Collecting 20 symbols will trigger the Brute Force feature: this causes a cluster break of between 5 and 8 unbroken symbols (converting them into 2, 3 or 4 of the same kind).

Collecting 40 symbols causes a cluster break of all remaining unbroken symbols (and converting them into 2, 3 or 4 of the same kind).

Smash ‘N’ Grab Free Spins

The Smash ‘N’ Grab Free Spins feature is triggered by collecting 60 symbols in a single spin. Beginning with 8 free spins and a multiplier of 8x, the multiplier can double (up to 1024x).

You can also gamble to increase the starting multiplier as well as winning 1 extra free spin for every successful gamble. Successive gambles can lead to a 256x starting multiplier plus a total of 13 free spins. If you lose a gamble, you’ll revert back to the base game.

The Midnight Marauder ClusterBreaker slot is a friendly crime caper that introduces a ClusterBreaker mechanic: with symbols randomly splitting into 2, 3 or 4 matching symbols, the chances of forming winning clusters increases as, theoretically, 256 symbols can appear.

It does remind me of Big Time Gaming’s Megaclusters mechanic found in games such as Star Clusters Megaclusters. I would also recommend playing on a laptop or PC as the symbols are quite small, once split, on smartphones.

When it comes to the bonus features, the Coin Caper Bonus feature allows you to build up Coins but the ClusterBreaker mechanic needs to work its magic to win anything substantial. It works like Slotmill’s Coin Cluster feature found in Lucy Luck and the Quest for Coins and Coin Quest 2.

The Brute Force can see up unbroken symbols split which increases your chances of forming winning clusters. I found the Multiplier Wheel feature to be the most important as forming consecutive wins can see the multiplier rise, up to 1024x.

Then you have Smash ‘N’ Grab Free Spins feature where you can gamble to begin with 13 free spins and a 256x starting multiplier. The higher the starting multiplier, the quicker you can reach the top of the multiplier ladder essentially.

With 10,000 x bet max wins, the win potential is lower than the games mentioned but Midnight Marauder ClusterBreaker manages to combine various mechanics and features into an entertaining proposition that’s worthy of cracking the vault for.
