Listening to Pearl Jam's 'Black' as I write this review, I must say that the Guitar Quest slot rocks. The soundtrack is superb and makes you feel like you’re in the heart of the action. The base game comes with randomly triggered Equalizer features: they add up to 8 wilds to the reels, duplicate positions for more wins, apply a random multiplier up to 10x and remove royals for richer reels.

The key, however, is to land 3 or more Skull Bonus Scatters to trigger the Bonus Pick, with standard, Super or Ultra versions. The Backstage Bonus is basically free spins plus Equalizer features on every free spin.

As you may have noticed, the headline act is the Solo Mode: I instantly thought the Guitar Hero video game. Anyway, Coins come down and are collected the by Collector Bar (which moves side to side). The Guitar God Booster sees higher-value Coins appear and the Expander collects all Coins across the 5 reels.

With the speed of prize drops increasing, batteries are your best friend as they keep the action alive. One second, you think the energy meter is going to run out and the next, a few batteries land coupled with high-value Coins. Thrilling and tieing in perfectly to the rock/guitar theme, I love the way Relax Gaming has made everything tie in together.

That said, it did remind me of the Blazing Train Bonus feature in Print Studios’ 12 Burning Baseballs and the Hypermode mechanic in Push Gaming’s Joker Troupe (which is only a compliment).

In summary, Guitar Quest is definitely one to try if you like this genre of music coupled with high-octane action. I think Relax has delivered a real showstopper with the Solo Mode taking all the plaudits. With 10,000 x bet max wins, it definitely beats how Coins are collected in other games (cough cough, the Big Bass series).
