Big Bamboo 2 Expert Review
Theme, Audio + Symbols

With an Asian/panda theme, the Big Bamboo 2 slot is the sequel to Big Bamboo (released in March 2022). The original game is one of Push Gaming’s most popular game with the second instalment a natural choice. Since then, Push has released more 'Bamboo' games in Bamboo Ways (September 2025) and Happy Bamboo (November 2025).
Visually, Big Bamboo 2 differs from the first game. The setting is a tranquil and traditional Japanese room with a huge round window overlooking a lush jungle. Initially, I was struck by the meditation-style soundtrack which is calming and relaxing. It’s a clear upgrade from the original slot.
On the reels, you’ll come across diamond, spade, heart and club royals: all pay up to 0.8 x your total bet. The higher-value symbols include birds, monkeys, warthogs and pandas: the panda is the best paying symbol, awarding 100 x your total bet for 5 in combination.
Then you have the Wild symbol: substituting for all paying symbols, 5 Wilds in combination also pays 100 x your total bet. Other symbols include the Mystery Bamboo, Golden Bamboo, Instant Prize, Multiplier, Collector, Lucky Bamboo and Ying Yang Bonus Scatter.
Big Bamboo 2 Mobile
Push Gaming deploy HTML5 technology for all their slot games. Therefore, Big Bamboo 2 is playable on mobile, tablet and desktop devices. Compatible with iOS and Android smartphones, in Portrait Mode, I recommend a larger device to get a taste of the zen experience.
Bonus Features
Big Bamboo 2 comes with Mystery Bamboo symbols that reveal paying symbols, Wilds or Golden Bamboo symbols: the latter can give you Instant Prizes up to 5,000 x bet, multipliers up to 10x, Collectors that collect Instant Prizes/Collecter symbol values, Bonus Scatters and the new Lucky Bamboo feature. Here, you aim to create frames: they reveal Instant Prize symbols with 4 levels for higher-value Instant Prizes. Finally, there are free spins where you can convert low-value symbols into a Mystery Bamboo symbol. You also benefit from sticky frames.
Mystery Bamboo
When the Mystery Bamboo symbol lands anywhere during base game and free spins, it reveals a paying symbol, Wild or Golden Bamboo symbol. If it reveals a Golden Bamboo symbol, you’ll trigger the Golden Bamboo feature.
Golden Bamboo
As mentioned, the Golden Bamboo feature is triggered when the Mystery Bamboo symbol reveals a Golden Bamboo symbol. Here, the following symbols can land:
- Instant Prize: worth between 1 and 5,000 x your total bet.
- Multiplier: multiplying the values of all Instant Prize and Collector symbols, the multiplier values are 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x.
- Collector: it collects all Instant Prize or Collector symbol values. After collection, empty positions respin. The Collector symbol remains in place after being collected by another Collector symbol and will not spin again.
- Lucky Bamboo: this triggers the Lucky Bamboo feature (more details below).
- Bonus Scatter: 3 or more will trigger the Free Spins feature.
Lucky Bamboo
In the Lucky Bamboo feature, you begin with 3 spins that reset each time a Golden Bamboo symbol lands. With all paying symbols spinning, including the Lucky Bamboo symbol, a dud or Golden Bamboo symbol will land.
When a Golden Bamboo symbol lands, a Bronze frame is created in that position (if it has no frame there before). If it had a frame there before, it will upgrade the frame to the next level. With Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond frames, each frame type determines which Instant Prize symbols can be revealed:
- Bronze: reveals all Instant Prize symbols
- Silver: reveals Instant Prize symbols worth 5 x bet or higher
- Gold: reveals Instant Prize symbols worth 25 x bet or higher
- Diamond: reveals Instant Prize symbols worth 1,000 x bet or higher
The Lucky Bamboo feature ends when they are no more spins left or all available frames reach Diamond level. At the end of the feature, all Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond frames spin through for their respective range of Instant Prize symbols with the frames being removed thereafter.
Free Spins
The Free Spins feature is triggered by landing 3 or more Ying Yang Bonus Scatters: the final Bonus Scatter becomes a Bonus Symbol Trigger, spinning to determine the number of initial free spins:
- 3 Bonus Scatters: 6 to 8 free spins
- 4 Bonus Scatters: 7 to 9 free spins + 2 low-value symbols converted to the Mystery Bamboo symbol
- 5 Bonus Scatters: 8 to 10 free spins + all 4 low-value symbols converted to the Mystery Bamboo symbol
Once in, there is a Low Symbol Meter visible next to the reels. Each time a Bonus Scatter or Extra Spin symbol lands, it’s collected. 4 Bonus Scatters are need to upgrade to the next level, with each level converting 1 low-vaue symbol into a Mystery Bamboo symbol, awarding an Instant Prize Multiplier and extra free spins:
| Symbol Converted | Extra Free Spins | Instant Prize Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 4 | 2x |
| 2nd | 3 | 3x |
| 3rd | 3 | 5x |
| 4th | 2 | 10x |
With no frames appearing, Mystery Bamboo symbols can land and trigger the Golden Bamboo feature. When this happens, a Bronze frame is created in that position. Frames remain sticky throughout the feature. If frames are empty, they will spin each time the Lucky Bamboo feature is triggered. You can also upgrade the frames.
Finally, the Extra Spin symbol can land during the Golden Bamboo feature. They will reward you with 1, 2 or 3 additional free spins.
Push Bet & Bonus Buy
There are 2 options which can be used to enhance your winning potential:
- Push Bet: available in the UK, it costs 1.5 x your total bet and it increases your chances of triggering the Free Spins feature.
- Bonus Buy: not available in the UK, you can buy your way into the Free Spins feature for 100 x your total bet.
Expert Verdict

Big Bamboo 2 supersedes its predecessor with sharper visuals, a new bonus feature, higher RTP rate and bigger max win potential. However, it doesn’t do enough to take things to a new level.
With the original game being such a cult favourite, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the Big Bamboo 2 slot. For starters, the visuals have received a major upgrade with the setting and soundtrack a lot more appealing.
The gameplay is pretty similar to the first outing, as Mystery Bamboo symbols reveal a random paying symbol, Wild or Golden Bamboo symbol: the latter spins to reveal Instant Prizes up to 5,000 x bet, multipliers up to 10x, Collectors or Bonus Scatters
The difference is that Push Gaming has added the Lucky Bamboo symbol into the mix. Triggering the Lucky Bamboo feature, you get respins essentially where Golden Bamboo symbols creating Bronze frames in its position. If you land a Golden Bamboo symbol in that frame, it’s upgraded to Silver, then Gold and finally Diamond.
The further you go, the more valuable the Instant Prize symbols. If you have Diamond frames, they will reveal Instant Prizes of 1,000 x your total bet or higher. Finally, there is the Free Spins feature where you aim to convert low-value symbols into Mystery Bamboo symbols, which in turn leads to more winning potential. Frames are also sticky allowing for bigger Instant Prizes.
With 75,000 x bet max wins, Big Bamboo 2 is similar to the original game but with the new Lucky Bamboo feature. Whilst fans of the first game might want more, it also stays true to the first game but with added max win potential, an extra bonus feature and a higher RTP rate (96.36% vs 96.13%).
Is it enough to make it a cult favourite though? Only time will tell but I do think there are better slot game sequels to take originals to a whole new level (such as Nolimit City’s Tombstone Slaughter and Push Gaming’s Razor Returns).
