Olympic Medal Winners in Contention for BBC Sports Personality of The Year

Tom Daley upset the odds to claim a gold medal in the mens synchronised diving alongside Matty Lee on Monday. Available at a huge 80/1 last week, his SPOTY odds are now just 11/2. It was Daley's first Olympic gold after winning bronze at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Fellow GB swimming team member Adam Peaty saw his odds crash from 18/1 into 10/1 for the same award after he defended his Olympic title on 'Mega Monday" which saw Team GB pick up three gold medals. Tom Piddock gaining the other in the mountain biking and being tipped by many to have a bright future career in professional cycling where we may one day see him compete in the Tour de France.

The competition for BBC Sports Personality of the year is hotting up. Previous favourites Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Mark Cavendish are now making way for Olympic medal winners.

In an Olympics year, the award often goes the way of an Olympian for example with Kelly Holmes in 2004 and Sir Chris Hoy in 2008 and cycling is also popular with Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas all winning the award in the past decade. Some bookies think Laura Kenny could join them and quote her as short as 13/2 in the odds ahead of her attempt to win Olympic Gold in Tokyo.

The favourite to win the award, due to be screened in December, is Dina Asher-Smith who has chances to medal in the 100m, 200m and 4x 100m relay. Dina Asher-Smith is just 4/1 to win the award, which shows how fancied she is to have a good Olympics.

Dina Asher-Smith is the 13/2 third favourite with the bookies to win the 100m race, 9/2 second favourite to win the 200meters and team GB are 9/2 to win the Women's 4x100m relay. Such is the popularity of the sprints amongst the British public, one gold may be enough to also take The Sports Personality of The Year award. Full SPOTY award odds available here
