Leicester City are the betting favourites to be bottom of the Premier League on Christmas Day

The 2024/25 Premier League season gets underway on Friday night and UK Betting Sites are offering odds on a variety of outright betting markets ahead of the opening weekend of the season.

Markets offered on outright outcomes include the dreaded relegation odds with the standard market given on who will go down as well as specials around other situations throughout the season.

One of those is who will be bottom of the league on Christmas Day, with the team who sits at the foot of the table on the 25th December usually having a big chance of being relegated.

Over the history of the Premier League just four teams have been bottom at Christmas and stayed up, with West Bromwich Albion (2004-05), Sunderland (2013-14), Leicester (2014-15) and Wolves (2022-23) all beating the drop.

Bet365's latest odds predict that it'll be Steve Cooper's Leicester who will be bottom at Christmas with the latest odds putting them well clear above any other side in the betting market.

Last season was only the fourth time in Premier League history that the bottom three teams on Christmas Day were the three to go down with Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United all being relegated.

Betting is also available on the traditional 'to be relegated' market with Leicester also favourites at 2/5 to go down this season, with Ipswich also odds-on to go straight back down to the Championship.

All three promoted teams are the top three in the betting odds with Southampton 11/10 to be relegated and it may be that we see that happen for the second season in-a-row.

Leicester's odds to be relegated give an implied probability of 71.4% that they go down but Steve Cooper will be hoping that he can have a successful first season in charge of the Foxes.

Man City remain favourites to win the Premier League for the fifth season in-a-row

It's not just relegation markets that you can bet on but of course the classic Premier League winner odds continue to be offered ahead of the start of the new season.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are the 11/10 favourites to win the league for the fifth year in-a-row as they look to continue their fine domestic form.

City won the Community Shield against rivals Man United at Wembley last weekend and no doubt will want to kick on with their season by winning even more silverware.

Arsenal sit as the second favourites in the market with the best betting sites for football suggesting that it'll be a two-horse race for the title.
