Bookmakers now go evens that the next Pope will come from Africa

Bookmakers continue to offer odds on who will be the next Pope and where exactly they will come from and OLBG are looking further into the latest available markets.

The current betting odds given sees an evens chance that the next Pope will be African with modern day history not seeing an African Pope.

We have though historically seen three African Pope's previously with Victor I, Miltiades, and Gelasius I having periods as the Pope from 189 to 496.

Now more than 1500 years later it may well be time for the next African Pope to be chosen with a 50% chance it happens according to the latest market.

Specific names continue to be offered to take over as Pope

Pietro Parolin has now moved into favourite to be the next Pope in an ever-changing market which seemingly has a new favourite every month.

Parolin is currently the Vatican's Secretary of State and has long been linked with stepping up as the next Pope.

Peter Turkson also still appears towards the top of the betting odds at 15/2 which would tie in with the next Pope being African.

Previously there had been odds on Turkson taking over last time with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes both making him favourite in their respective markets back in 2013 after Pope Benedict stepped down.

Francis still favourite to be the name of the next Pope

Francis continues to be the favourite to be the name of the next Pope with the current Pope the first to use the name in history.

The current Pope became the first to use a new name since Pope Lando in 913-914 and it may well be that we see Francis II next.

John Paul, Leo and John wrap up the top four of the betting market with the name of the Pope one of the most discussed topics when it comes to seeing who will be next.
