Liz Truss is now evens favourite to be the next leader of the Conservative party
Liz Truss is the evens favourite with bookies to be the next leader of the Conservative party after Kemi Badenoch was knocked out of the race.
Betway have now made Truss favourite to win the vote after she made 15 votes in the latest poll yesterday and gained ground on Penny Mordaunt.
Mordaunt had a total of 92 votes yesterday which was 6 more than Truss on 86 and Rishi Sunak still led the way on 120 votes.
It's expected that a decent portion of Kemi Badenoch's 59 voters will back Truss in the next round of voting today.
The vote is due to take place today at 1pm-3pm with the final result of the poll set for 4pm where we'll find out who the final two candidates are.
Rishi Sunak has long been favourite but is now 11/8 to win vote
Rishi Sunak was the favourite to be the next Conservative Party leader but has drifted out to second in the market in the last 24 hours.
Sunak was 4/1 to win the race just two weeks ago and has come in considerably since then, but now finds himself behind Truss in the market.
In our same story on the 6th July, Liz Truss was 10/1 to be the next Conservative leader so she has made more of a market move than Sunak has.
At the time bookmakers gave Truss just a 9% chance of taking over from Boris Johnson next but now she has a 50% chance according to the betting odds.
Next Conservative Party Leader | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Liz Truss | 1/1 | 50.0% |
Rishi Sunak | 11/8 | 42.1% |
Penny Mordaunt | 13/2 | 13.3% |
Boris Johnson specials on his next role
Boris Johnson resigned from his role as the leader of the Conservative party earlier this month and his role as Prime Minister.
It is unclear what Johnson will do next but there will more than likely be a variety of options available for him.
All three candidates for the Conservative leader role have said that there will be no place for Johnson in their cabinet though.
Boris Johnson's Next Role | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Ambassador to the USA | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Editor of Evening Standard | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Mayor of London | 16/1 | 5.9% |
Party Planner | 500/1 | 0.2% |
Betway go 500/1 that Johnson will be a Party Planner in his next role after his famous parties at Downing Street during lockdown.
