David Tennant still 4/6 favourite for Dr Who role
David Tennant remains the favourite in the betting market to be the next Dr Who in the massive BBC series.
Tennant has previously played the Doctor being the Tenth Doctor in the series, starring in the role from 2005-2010.
That made him the longest Doctor since the series was relaunched in 2005 after he took over from Christopher Eccleston in the role.
Next Doctor Who | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
David Tennant | 4/6 | 60% |
Lydia West | 4/1 | 20% |
Olly Alexander | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Michael Sheen | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Omari Douglas | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Lenny Henry | 9/1 | 10% |
Michael Coel | 10/1 | 9.1% |
T'Nia Miller | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Hugh Grant | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Hugh Grant was briefly touted as the next Doctor, but rubbished claims himself on his Twitter page after reports in various newspapers in the UK.
Grant is a massive actor when it comes to movies, so any sort of link with him to the Doctor role would be huge for the series.
Another female Doctor may be on the cards
Jodie Whittaker is the only woman that has been cast as the famous Doctor since the series began back in 1963.
Other female actor's feature in the betting market to take over from Whittaker's role, so it may be that another woman takes over in the role as the Doctor.
With odds of 4/1, Lydia West is the second favourite in the market to replace Whittaker and has been a big rumour in the press over the last few months.
Having worked with Russell T Davies on both Years and Years and It's A Sin, West may be popular for the producer who is returning as show-runner on Doctor Who this year.
Davies may want to have someone in the role as the Doctor who they have worked with previously and West ticks that box, as does fellow contender Olly Alexander.
Olly Alexander still big in the market
Years and Years musician Olly Alexander has been constantly linked to the Doctor Who role ever since Jodie Whittaker announced she was leaving.
Alexander has worked with Russell T Davies like Lydia West and he'd fit the Doctor role like a glove.
Receiving various nominations for his role in It's A Sin, Alexander was praised by critics and fans alike for his acting talent in the series.
In a recent interview though, Alexander shouted out his It's A Sin co-star Omari Douglas for the role as the Doctor.
Speaking about Douglas in the role, Alexander said, "I think the Doctor's quite queer anyway – that's my take on the character – and I think it would really make sense for a queer actor to take the role."
At odds of 6/1, bookmakers give Douglas the same odds as Alexander to be the next Doctor.
