- Replacing the First Ever Female Time Lord
Jodie Whittaker the current Dr Who in the British TV show is expected to make the third series her last and not return for a fourth.
Olly Alexander is the bookmaker's favourite to take on the role next, but we won't know until the news is officially announced.
Olly Alexander, musically known as Years & Years, has been considered for the role of Dr Who.
Olly is seen as a front runner by bookmakers who have the actor as the current favourite to take over when Whittaker stands down.

Cancel Rumours have Quietened
Rumours were rife at the beginning of the year that the BBC may cancel the show through declining audiences much like they did in 1989 when Sylvester McCoy was the Doctor before a return to screens in 1996 with Paul McGann at the helm.
That was six months ago and little in that regard has been mentioned whilst more chatter of talks with Olly Alexander have come to light.
Some may still consider it a possibility though given Olly Alexanders agent has flatly denied his interest in the role, stating, 'Even though Olly is often contacted by Cybermen, I’m afraid I have to exterminate this speculation'
Youngest Doctor Ever?
Not quite, Alexander's age belies his looks and at 31, landing this position would make him one of the youngest Doctors to date at just 31 years old - only Peter Davidson (1982-1984) was younger when taking on the same role.
The average age of actors when debuting in the role has been around 30, so Olly Alexander fits that bill.
Another Woman to Replace the First Female Time Lord?
Jodie Whittaker was the first female Doctor Who in the show's near 50-year history. The chances of being followed by another female are remote if the bookmakers odds are accurate but not impossible.
Possible 2nd Woman Doctors
Candidate | Odds | Chance |
---|---|---|
Michaela Coel | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Anne Maxwell Martin | 10/1 | 9% |
Kelly Macdonald | 14/1 | 6.5% |
Tilda Swinton | 16/1 | 6% |
Michaela Coel tops the list of Woman in the betting odds to become the 14th Doctor Who. She is best known for creating and starring in the E4 sitcom Chewing Gum, for which she won the BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance; and the BBC One/HBO comedy-drama series I May Destroy You for which she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress in 2021.
Ten years older is Anna Maxwell Martin from Line of Duty who the bookies have listed along with another Line of Duty star Kelly Macdonald.
The eldest potential female Doctor on the list is 60year old ,ulti Film and television industry award winner Tilda Swinton although she is rated as having only a 5% chance of landing the big role, or even accepting it.
