Railway strikes are all over the news currently with disruptions all over the UK and it's 2/1 for even more next month
The UK is currently in the midst of a wave of strikes across the rail service, with strikes set for three days this coming week.
With three separate dates starting on the 21st June, the UK is set to see extreme disruptions on services this week with strikes happening on:
- Tuesday 21st June
- Thursday 23rd June
- Saturday 25th June
OLBG odds say it's 10/1 that the strike stops towards the end of the week and Saturday's action doesn't go ahead.
50,000 workers are set to walkout on Tuesday, with a further 40,000 expected on both Thursday and Saturday.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has made last minute plea to stop strikes
The UK's Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pleaded with Rail workers to stop the strikes before they happen from tomorrow.
In an interview with the Evening Standard, Johnson has declared the strikes as an "act of self-harm for rail workers" across the UK.
It looks increasingly likely though that this plea will go on deaf ears and the strikes will go ahead though.
If that is the case, it may further harm Boris Johnson's reign as the Prime Minister after the no confidence vote earlier this month.
Jeremy Hunt is the favourite to replace Johnson as the Next Prime Minister according to the betting odds.
Further strikes may well happen throughout the rest of the year with August and September odds quoted
Striking action is potentially set to take place throughout the remainder of the year, with big events set to take place in the UK.
Strikes tend to take place at the biggest point of inconvenience and with the Women's Euro's being held in England in July and many other events there may be more to come.
Rail Strike Specials | OLBG Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Rail Strikes in July | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Rail Strikes in August | 3/1 | 25.0% |
Rail Strikes in September | 4/1 | 20.0% |
June's Rail Strikes to end before Saturday 25th June | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Boris Johnson to resign 'directly due to Rail Strikes' | 100/1 | 1.0% |
The chance of Boris Johnson resigning is fairly minimal currently but there's even less chance he does it as a direct effect of the rail strikes.
Consecutive months of striking action may be a rare thing, but we may well see it happening if rail workers feel they aren't being listened to.
