I break betting odds news as it happens, so you’re never left behind when the market moves or a top offer lands.

  • Ne Zha 2 leads the market after hitting nearly $1.9bn globally.
  • Avatar: Fire and Ash is seen as the only serious contender.
  • The rest of the market, including The Fantastic Four: First Steps, looks well off the pace.

Ne Zha 2 Dominates Box Office Battle

The race to be crowned the highest grossing film worldwide in 2025 is starting to take shape and as it stands, Chinese animated hit Ne Zha 2 is miles ahead of the competition.

Having already raked in a staggering $1.899 billion at the global box office, the sequel to the 2019 smash hit has stormed to the top of the betting market.

Bookmakers now make it an 8/15 favourite to hold onto top spot for the remainder of the year.

Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps was tipped to be one of the challengers but has stumbled out of the blocks, opening without the kind of explosive numbers needed to dethrone Ne Zha 2.

Instead, all eyes are on the upcoming release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which arrives later this year and is seen as the only realistic contender for the crown.

What the expert says...
Box office betting markets can move quickly when a major blockbuster launches, but Ne Zha 2’s early numbers are huge. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the big unknown here. If it mirrors the franchise’s previous global pull, it could still cause a shake-up later in the year. Right now though, this market is Ne Zha 2’s to lose.

Market Insight

This is shaping up to be a two-horse race. Ne Zha 2’s enormous domestic performance in China has given it a head start that will be tough to catch.

The Avatar franchise’s history of record-breaking international success means James Cameron’s latest could still mount a late challenge though.

Trailers have now been released for Avatar and it looks as big as you could possibly imagine, with massive Box Office performance expected one again.
