I've spent over 20 years inside the betting industry. I'll guide you to avoid the hype, ignore the noise, and steer clear of the common pitfalls that catch out everyday punters.

  • Bookies go 6/1 for the World Record Transfer to be broken in 2022
  • Current World Record is £198 Million that PSG paid Barcelona for Neymar
  • Barca also hold 3 of the Top 10 fees ever paid
  • English Clubs Chelsea and Machester City are the most recent Big Spenders
  • Will Newcastle be in the market with super-rich new owners.

World Record Fee to be Broken

The current World Record football transfer fee was set by Paris St Germain in 2017 when they shelled out an enormous £198 million to secure the service of Neymar from Barcelona.

PSG also hold the record for the second-biggest transfer fee for Kylian Mbappé to move from Monaco for £163million.

Now bookmakers are taking bets on whether the record will be broken in 2022 along with a host of other What will happen in the betting markets in 2022

Will the Record Transfer Fee be broken in 2022

Outcome Odds Probability
No 1/7 87.49%
Yes 6/1 14.29%

PSG have been the spenders in the last few years holding not only the record for the highest transfer fee paid but also the second highest. Even taking into account that PSG are still spending bookmakers make it only 6/1 that the record will be broken in 2022, that means there is an 87% chance that it will not.

Who Would Have the Money?

Whilst PSG are still in the habit of spending big money, even Mbappé's move was some £60m more than Barcelona paid for Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool for £105m so clubs with the funds to secure the record are few and far between.

So-called 'Oil Backed Money Clubs' would be the most likely to spend record-breaking money, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and Newcastle United would-be candidates, whilst in Europe Barca have gone broke, but PSG still has lots of cash as well as the top German teams.

Dortmund could make the record sale given possession of Erling Haarland, who would be the main player talked about for the next big-money move. His sale would provide Borussia Dortmund with a big transfer chest whilst Manchester United always has money to spend.
