Warren Gatland has backed Farrell to take over as Head Coach

Wales head coach Warren Gatland revealed last week that he will not put his name forward this time around to coach the British and Irish Lions tour in 2025.

Gatland has led the way for the Lions in their last three tours with visits to Australia (2013), New Zealand (2017) and South Africa (2021) seeing them win, draw and lose respectively.

The New Zealander announced in his Telegraph article that he would be stepping back and that he wants Andy Farrell to be his successor.

"He was a key member of my Lions coaching teams on the tours of 2013 and 2017," Gatland said around Farrell's previous experience with the Lions.

What is the British & Irish Lions 2025 tour schedule?

The British & Irish Lions tour schedule in 2025 sees them travel down under to face Australia for three massive test matches, with 6 other matches taking place as warm-ups for those games.

The tour gets underway on June 28 2025 against Western Force, with the first test match against Australia coming 5 games later on Saturady July 19 2025.

Sky Sports have the full tour schedule up already as they have the broadcast rights to the tour once more.
