2025/26 Championship Season Betting Preview: Ipswich 3/1 Favourites To Bounce Straight Back

The 2025/26 Championship season gets underway on Friday night as Birmingham City host Ipswich Town in the opening fixture and betting sites have opened the outright markets ahead of the big kick-off.

After suffering Premier League relegation last season, Ipswich Town are 3/1 favourites with bet365 to win the Championship and make an immediate return to the top flight.

Southampton (5/1) and Birmingham (7/1) follow in the market, with both clubs tipped to be in the mix for automatic promotion.

Birmingham won League One last season and have continued to strengthen their squad for this year's campaign to try and get up to the Premier League.

What the expert says...
Ipswich are rightly favourites with their squad strong and Kieran McKenna looking to build them up for another promotion charge. At the other end, Sheffield Wednesday's issues are no secret, and the market reflects the significant off-field concerns that could derail their campaign before it even gets going.

Sheffield Wednesday Odds-On For The Drop

At the other end of the table, Sheffield Wednesday face a difficult campaign both on and off the pitch.

Financial issues continue to mount and uncertainty remains prompting bookmakers to install them as 1/3 favourites to be relegated.

Oxford United (13/5) and Charlton (3/1) are also expected to face an uphill battle for survival, while Hull City and QPR round out the top five contenders for the drop.
