Can Xue is the 4/1 favourite to win the Nobel Literature Prize for 2024

Chinese author Can Xue is the bookmakers favourite at 4/1 to win the Nobel Prize For Literature with betting odds now available for this year's award.

Deng Xiaohua, better known by her pen name Can Xue, was previously favourite for last year's Nobel Prize but third favourite in the market Jon Fosse was picked as the winner.

The latest betting odds give an implied probability of 20% that Can Xue wins the 2024 Nobel Literature Prize but as always the field is wide open when it comes to the contenders.

According to the will of Alfred Nobel, the prize is awarded to “the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction”.

Jon Fosse won the 2023 Nobel Literature Prize for his "innovative plays"

Norwegian Novelist and Playwright Jon Fosse was chosen as the winner of the 2023 Nobel Literature Prize with the award announced back in October for his works that “give voice to the unsayable.”

Fosse’s work has been translated into more than 40 languages which and that has seen his stock rise in the literature world as one of the most popular playwrights now.

The total award to win the Nobel Literature Prize is 11m Swedish Krona which loosely translates to around £824,000 with the prize money rising by 1m Swedish Krona.
