Wet Leg 7/2 favourites for this year's Mercury Prize Award
Rock band Wet Leg have had a massive last 12 months with their rise proven with a Number 1 album.
Their self-titled debut Wet Leg made them become the first band from the Isle of Wight to hit the peak of the UK Album Charts.
Bookmakers make them 7/2 to win the Mercury Music Prize Award, with their viral hits helping with their success.
Mercury Music Prize Winner 2022 | Odds | Probablity |
---|---|---|
Wet Leg | 7/2 | 22.2% |
Kae Tempest | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Little Simz | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Fontaines D.C. | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Dave | 10/1 | 9.1% |
'Chaise Longue' went viral in the last year, with millions of streams and video views including TikTok sounds boosting the band further.
Kae Tempest is the second favourite to win the Mercury Prize this year, and they have already been nominated for the award twice before.
Former winner Dave is 10/1 to win the award again after his 2019 victory
Dave is an extremely popular winner of previous years of the award, being given the prize for his 2019 album Psychodrama.
His rise to mainstream popularity may have hindered his chances of winning the award though, with the judges not normally liking massive winning artists usually.
We're All Alone In This Together, his most recent release that would be nominated for this year's prize, became Dave's second UK Number One Album when it was released last year.
With 74,000 album equivalent units sold in the first week, it became the biggest UK Album Launch at the time of it's release.
Last year's Mercury Prize blog saw eventual winner Arlo Parks as 4/1 joint second favourite in the market, so it's not always the favourites that win the prestigious award.
Brit Awards Album of the Year from Adele is 25/1 to win the prize
Adele is a 25/1 outsider to win the award this year, with her album 30 winning the Brit Awards Album of the Year.
Obviously a massive success in terms of albums sold, Adele is guaranteed to be a popular winner of the award.
The singer has been nominated for the Mercury Prize Award twice before, but has not yet won the award.
Nominated in 2008 and 2011 for her albums 19 and 21, her album 25 was not nominated for the Mercury Prize.
