2:15 Newbury Tips

Jackie Hobbs could be interesting. Didn't need a pipe opener last year, so goes well fresh. Won up to class 2 level in bumpers but was a little stretched in class 1 at Aintree. If translating that level of ability to hurdles, has a great chance considering the current form of the yard. Trainer likes to aim high with owner Noel Fehily's hurdlers.

A very competitive Mares Novice Hurdle with several top yards having decent representatives. But the nod goes to Ben Pauling's Hornica, who came from right at the back of the field to finish a good fourth on her only bumper start at Cheltenham. Has definite promise.

Ran very well in Cheltenham bumper, having covered a lot of ground by racing wide. Both Skeltons rate her for this season and good value here.

Having won on her only start in an Irish point, she couldn’t have been more impressive when winning her first start for this yard, a mares' bumper at Newbury in March, with her jockey hardly moving on her. She ran a lot better than the form book might suggest on her return/hurdles debut at Worcester over two miles, unsuited by being held up in a steadily run race. She will soon leave that form well behind and looks an exciting prospect for this season and should be well suited to trips in excess of two miles.

Pottersville gets the very able assistance of Sean Bowen here (one of two rides for Rebecca Curtis), and she was most impressive when hacking up on debut by 8 lengths in a Clonmel bumper in April. She's also by Ocovango, an NH sire making a name for himself, and although lacking experience, I believe she's at least a place prospect.

This horse showed a very good turn of pace to put a bumper to bed at Stratford about a year ago. Since then, it has changed trainers and runs for Emma Lavelle. With her stable in good form, I have to fancy this horse.

Kapability beat some very good horses first time out at Aintree and a reproduction of that form could see him in the shake up at a decent price.
