3:20 Lingfield Tips

This three-year-old gelding is the most fascinating runner of the day, attempting a quick two-day turnaround. He ran here yesterday, where he finished unplaced behind Three On Thursday. He got hampered twice from the back and managed to get up after the final bend. He remains a maiden, but he attracted market support yesterday, and the swift return to Lingfield suggests the stable is determined to get a result while he is at peak fitness. Track & Trip The 1m trip on the Lingfield Polytrack is obviously fine for him, as he is back for more two days later. The key advantage today is Stall 4, which is a much better berth than he has had in recent starts. This should allow jockey Darragh Keenan to get him into a rhythm without doing too much work early. In Class 6 company, fitness is half the battle, and no horse in this field is race-harder than Warrnambool right now. The drop in trip is set up for him here, and if he's handy on the final bend he should be winning this.

This one's two best runs have come under this jockey, including his first win last time. He came from last to first that day, and a similar run could see him follow up over this C/D with a 6 lb penalty off the same mark.

Royal Jet came into a bit of form in his last three races before a break. Now, with a run behind him, he can continue to progress at this level. Looks a solid new shout with the stable in form.

Charlatan has had three runs over course and distance, which include a win off 49 and a placed effort off 55. He's down to 49 again now, and the trainer has spotted a good opportunity here. This is also confirmed by the jockey booking, who is 4 from 10 on the horse (the horse is from 18 for other jockeys). Clearly, all this evidence suggests we can expect a big race from the horse, and the 16/1 is way too big; it should be nearer to half those odds, I would suggest.

Cuban Fiesta isn't easy to win with but has plenty of place form. When last seen on the Polytrack (at Chelmsford), he wasn't far away at all. That did come from the inside trap, which can help there, but he still has potential to get involved in this one from the same mark as that Chelmsford showing. A tongue tie that was absent in the misfire at Newcastle last time out but present for that Chelmsford run is re-applied here.

Got back to the winners enclosure in similar class race over C/D 3 runs back and not disgraced in same grade in 2 follow up runs here off revised marks. Under used jockey who was on board for that win is back in the saddle and very shrewd training duo are best here with their 4yo plus last 5 seasons @ 11 percent, making current 12/1 solid Ew value in the race.

MONKS MEAD is a huge price in this poor race and that, seemingly, owes much to the fact that the 4-y-o is returning from a break. That is true, and it may well tell, but off a mark of 49, this exposed type has run no less than 12-races in which his RPR would be good enough to win this. Has clearance on his outside from the widest stall and surely must be some value, in a race where all can be treated with suspicion.

He is up against experienced winners on handicap debut, but a huge drop in class and the seven-pound claimer, Myla Coppins, gives him a chance.

This is a poor race and the filly STRAIGHT BACK UP may not be a no-hoper. She made her debut over 7f for Tim Easterby back in the summer. Since that debut, which was not without promise, she has mostly been sprinting. Stepped up from 5f to an extended mile by new connections, she ran much better at Wolves last time despite pulling hard. She has the hood on today, steps back a few yards, and this filly started off for King Power Racing. Enough to like at the price.
