Another jolly I fancy the chances off at Doncaster on Saturday is TURTY TREE. The son of New Bay showed plenty of potential when finishing runner-up in a mile novice at HQ in October and I’m expecting more now up in trip from the powerful A Balding yard. NB brings a few positive favourite stats to provide further confidence; a 51% SR (A/E 1.33) at Northern courses, 46% SR (A/E 1.44) in C1-3 races and 45% SR (A/E 1.28) with Irish-born runners. 11/8 taken.

It's quite hard to know what to make of these three-year-old maidens at this early point of the season, but I'm willing to believe that Valenday will have improved over the winter. He ran two races at York in the autumn which were full of promise. Hopefully he will have trained on to allow him to fulfil his potential.

High Storm is the most experienced in this possibly high-quality field and can put that to good use and go close here. He has improved with each run, having stepped up in trip each time. Last time out he finished 2nd of 6 at Southwell just under a month ago on his first run on the all-weather surface after over 140 days off the track. He should come on for that run and should be suited by this 10f trip on turf, with soft ground in his favour. Market guide could be used for expectations of these newcomers or once-raced types, but he should be bang there at the finish with recent fitness on his side.
