Papa Don't Preach has become a much more attractive bet at 5.00 than his initial forecast suggested. He arrives in consistently good form and was beaten only a head at Yarmouth last time from a handicap mark just 1lb lower than today's rating. That was another solid performance in a sequence that shows he is currently operating close to his best. Five to six furlongs suits him well, he handles a sound surface so there are no obvious concerns surrounding conditions. Miss Rainbow comes here after a course-and-distance victory and is respected, while Edmond Halley has also been running consistently, but Papa Don't Preach is arguably better treated than either based on his recent efforts. At 5.00 I prefer a straight win bet rather than diluting the stake each-way, because his current form and competitive mark give him a genuine chance of going one place better.

Three runs this summer for the 6yo, finishing 1st , 2nd and 3rd, not beaten far in defeat and the form looks solid. Now helped by a good 5lb claiming jockey who was in saddle when winning three starts back. Weighted to run a big race.

Currently the outsider in the betting but has won seven times over course and distance. Not so good of late but has now rejoined the Duffield yard and drops back into a class six. Might outrun current odds from a fair mark.
