Night Breeze has the strongest course-and-distance profile in the field, with two wins and a second from three Ascot runs over this trip, plus six wins from 15 starts around the distance. His current form is also difficult to fault: second at Epsom over 2420m, third at Newmarket over 2414m, then third in a deep Class 2 handicap at Goodwood. He stays at the same class level and handles good ground well. Draw seven is workable and avoids the wider starting positions carried by several main rivals. The main uncertainty is pace, because the supplied card does not give enough reliable run-style information to claim a clear tactical advantage.

I think Ryan Moore has picked up a good ride here on Asgard's Captain, who has been running well, culminating in a very good win in a competitive handicap at Newmarket in May over this trip. He has run with credit since, with some excuses such as the testing ground at Epsom and shaping like a non-stayer over further at Newcastle, especially last time out at Newmarket when he was still in contention until the final furlong. It did not pay to race up the strong pace, with all of the first four home coming from the rear, so there are hopes for a better run off just 2lb higher than his last winning mark. At around 13/2, he has strong each-way claims back down in trip.

The 4yo comes into the race on the back of two big runs. He was beaten by just a head in a useful 16 runner handicap during June. Four weeks ago he was 3rd of 22 in the £103K John Smith's Cup handicap. He has been seeing his races out and this step up to 12f should suit him. Still on a decent mark.

Stepped up to this level last run out at tough Sandown and won by a length in a field of nine runners. Has raced here before and took 2nd against an odds-on favourite who has gone on to win again in better company. Up in distance and slightly in weight, but looks like he can handle it.

This horse looks to be a sporting each-way alternative to the favourite in this race. Won well at Newmarket two starts ago and can make his presence felt here.
