The Russian Premier League is made up of sixteen teams and the league format is for all teams to play each other twice, once at home and once away.
The two teams that finish first and second in the league are automatically qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
The team that finishes third in the league receives entry into the third qualifying round of the Champions League. The teams that finish fourth and fifth receive an entry into different stages of the qualifying rounds of the Europa League.
