The NFL has completed its annual roster overhaul for the most part with the NFL Draft and Free Agency now in the rearview mirror. A few major players remain available in the market (Nuke Hopkins, Dalvin Cook), but the major player acquisitions have been finalized for months. As a result, sportsbooks have updated their futures odds for the upcoming season with a clear separation between the favorites, contenders, and long shots. The Chiefs and Eagles, who played a memorable Super Bowl last February in Arizona, are favored to return for Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas. Nipping at their heels just behind them, in terms of odds, are the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Cincinnati Bengals. In the contender "middle class" we find the Cowboys, Jets, Ravens, and Lions. The Cowboys, Jets, and Ravens would need to slay their divisional rivals (Eagles, Bills, Bengals) to secure a favorable playoff spot, while the Lions will be playing in the wide-open NFC North. Jacksonville is priced attractively at 25:1 after winning a playoff game and throwing a scare into Kansas City last season in the postseason. They also have the benefit of playing six games against the Colts, Texans and Titans. That could translate to the Jags making a surprise run at the #1 overall seed in the AFC next season.

Interestingly a host of playoff teams from last season are listed with long odds. Minnesota, who finished 13-4 last season with a sparkling 8-1 home record during the regular season, can be had at +4000 to win it all. The same price can be found attached to the New York Giants who not only snuck into the playoffs at 9-7-1, but they also upset Minnesota on the road in the Wild Card Round. Tampa Bay has moved on from Tom Brady, making their most recent playoff run last season feel like a distant memory. Oddsmakers have placed them at the very bottom of the board (+12500). It's worth noting that Pro Football Focus ranked their overall roster 28th out of 32 teams and believes that the QB and offensive line situations could be disastrous for the Bucs.

It's very difficult to return to the Super Bowl, which is why I'm training my eyes on a few teams behind the Chiefs and Eagles on the board. The Ravens and 49ers are loaded on both sides of the ball and if the Baltimore receiving corp improves and Brock Purdy fully recovers from injury for San Fran, I foresee them meeting in the Super Bowl.

If you're looking for a flyer or two, the Falcons and Commanders offer value at +8000. Both teams will be turning over the reins to young starting quarterbacks (Howell, Ridder) but they each have X-factors trending in their favor. The Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson in the top ten of the NFL Draft and if he provides them with a Pro Bowl year as a rookie, there's a chance they could climb to the top of the weak NFC South. The Commanders have a much better roster overall (16th by PFF) and could improve their roster further by trading Chase Young for a playmaker or two on offense.
