Slot Details

The Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways slot uses the popular Megaways mechanic developed by Big Time Gaming. On every reel, there will be up to 7 symbols. The more symbols per reel, the more Megaways or ways to win. If all 6 reels contain 7 symbols each, you’ll benefit from 117,649 ways to win. Winning combinations are awarded when matching symbols appear from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel, in any position.

In terms of betting options, you can spin away from 20p to £50 per spin. This may be limited to £20, £10 or even £5 per spin in some countries/casinos. To change your bet, use the green arrows in the ‘Stake’ box (which will appear to the right of the reels on desktop devices and below the reels in Portrait Mode). Players outside the UK can make use of the Autoplay function which allows up to 100 auto spins with loss and single win limits.

The Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways RTP rate is 96.27% which is above the 96% online slots average but lower than the expected return for Big Time Gaming slots. Oddly, there are other RTP settings available with a 96.32% version if provided by Relax Gaming.

Medium to high volatility (4/5), there is no hit frequency rate information. Finally, the Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways slot comes with 72,310 times bet max wins. Wins can reach 20,000 times your total bet on base game spins.

With a game show theme, the Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways slot is the official, branded game of the iconic television game show which now sees Jeremy Clarkson host the revamped version. Due to the show’s success, international variants have appeared in around 100 countries making it the best-selling TV format in history.

With the infamous studio set forming the game’s backdrop, you’ll hear the official soundtrack. With no sign of Jeremy Clarkson unfortunately, Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways was Big Time Gaming’s first branded release.

On the reels, you’ll see the same A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 royal symbols that feature in other BTG slots including Bonanza Megaways. The higher-value symbols include green, blue and red gemstones as well as a purple diamond. The pirple diamond symbol is the best paying awarding 50 times your total bet for 6 in combination.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways also comes with a Question Mark Wild symbol that substitutes for all paying symbols. It only appears on the Extra Reel (below the main grid). Finally, there is a Millionaire Scatter symbol with 3 or more triggering the free spins. Below, you’ll find all symbol payouts and functions:

  • 9: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 or 0.8 x bet

  • Q: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.2, 0.25, 0.6 or 1 x bet
  • A/K: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 or 1.75 x bet
  • Green Gemstone: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 or 2 x bet
  • Blue Gemstone: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.25, 1, 1.5 or 2 x bet
  • Red Gemstone: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 1, 2, 2.5 or 7.5

With HTML5 technology used by Big Time Gaming to create all slots, Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways can be played on desktop, mobile and tablet devices. Compatible with iOS and Adnroid smartphones, mobile players who see a Portrait Mode which occupies more of your handheld screen for a better experience. Even though mobile play is the norm these days, a laptop or PC is my personal choice.

Bonus Features

Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways comes with 3 bonus features. With Reactions in the base game giving you the chance for continuous wins, it’s all about the Free Spins feature where you begin with 8 free spins. You can sit in the ‘Hot Seat’ and gamble using lifelines for up to 50 free spins. Once in, there is an unlimited win multiplier and the chance to win unlimited extra free spins.

Reactions

When a winning combination lands, the Reactions feature is triggered. Winning symbols are then replaced by new symbols coming from above on the main reels and from the right on the Extra Reel. Giving you another opportunity to land another winning combination, the process continues as long as you keep winning. Also known as Cascades, Cascading Wins or Avalanches, it’s the most common bonus feature found in Megaways slots.

Free Spins

The Free Spins feature is triggered when you land 3 Millionaire Scatter symbols anywhere during a base game spin. With 8 free spins awarded, you will have a choice to either walk away and begin with 8 free spins or activate the Hot Seat Free Spins Gamble feature.

This feature gives you the chance to begin with up to 50 free spins. With the gamble prize ladder containing 12 rungs, the rungs represent the number of free spins you’ll begin with:

RungNumber of Free Spins
18
210
312
414
516
618
720
822
925
1030
1140
1250

Each additional Millionaire Scatter symbol you land when triggering the free spins moves you up a ring in the Hot Seat Free Spins Gamble prize ladder. If you were trigger the free spins with 4, 5 or 6 Millionaire Scatter symbols, you’d begin on rung 2, 3 or 4 respectively. Rungs 2 and 7 are safety net rungs meaning you are guaranteed at least 10 or 20 free spins respectively.

To gamble, you need to select an answer from A, B, C or D and then press ‘Final Answer’. If you’re successful in your gamble, you will move up a ring in the prize ladder. If you’re unsuccessful, you will get 0 free spins (if under rung 2), 10 or 20 free spins (if you’re at rung 2 or 7). Apart from rungs 2 and 7, you can ‘walk away’ and begin the free spins.

Just like the iconic television show, lifelines are available at each gamble. These include:

  • 50:50: 2 incorrect answers are removed from the options
  • Phone a Friend: this reveals the most likely answer
  • Ask the Audience: this reveals the chance of being correct for each answer

Once you’re in, there is an unlimited win multiplier which begins at 1x. Each reaction/winning combination increases the win multiplier value by 1. The win multiplier can only increase with no limits.

Finally, landing 3 or 4 Millionaire Scatters in the Extra Reel will award 4 or 8 additional free spins respectively. You can win unlimited extra free spins too.

Expert Verdict

Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways slot OLBG Rating banner

For starters, if you’re a fan of the TV game show, you’ll be pleased with the Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways slot. With the show given a new lease of the life with the superb Jeremy Clarkson, you get the experience the thrills of the iconic game show without having to demonstrate any trivia knowledge.

With Reactions in the base game, the focus is completely on the Free Spins feature where you can gamble to begin with up to 50 free spins. Gambles are optional but it’s worth trying to get to at least rung 2 where you’re guaranteed 10 free spins. Lifelines are your friend with the Ask the Audience and Phone a Friend lifetimes giving you the best chance of reaching the next rung up the gamble prize ladder.

With 72,310 times bet max wins, Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways packs quite the punch. It would have been fitting if this slot game offered 1 million times bet max wins but there is no game that offers this (yet). The closest is Nolimit City’s Tombstone Slaughter which comes with 500,000 times bet max payouts.

That said, the Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways slot is virtually a clone of Big Time Gaming’s Extra Chilli Megaways. In the latter, wins of 43,440 times bet can be achieved as well as up to 24 starting free spins.

If you’re a fan of television game shows, Deal or No Deal Megaways by Blueprint Gaming is recommended. Another option is Wheel of Fortune Megaways by IGT.

In summary, Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways is one of BTG’s most popular slot games as confirmed with my interview with Big Time Gaming’s CEO Nik Robinson. As a result, BTG has created more ‘Millionaire’ slots including Millionaire Rush and Millionaire Mystery Box. My favourite is Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megapays which offers the same gameplay as the Megaways version as well as the chance to win 4 progressive jackpots.
