Trap Tower Expert Review
Theme, Audio + Symbols

With a crime theme, the Trap Tower slot sees rival crews fight for territory as the cops work tirelessly to shut them down. Your aim is to climb through a criminal empire packed with dirty money, shady characters and enough bad decisions to fill a police report (according to Shady Lady). The higher your climb, the harder things get as the money increases but so does the pressure from the cops.
The setting is a rundown trap house, which is a slang term for a residence used for conducting illegal drug dealing and consumption. Set in New York, the visuals are gritty and remind me of Grand Theft Auto. The soundtrack has a hip-hop feel and compliments the theme perfectly.
On the reels, the lower-value symbols include spliffs and pills, baby powder bottles, bags of crack cocaine and small weighing scales (to weigh the drugs). The higher-value symbols include 4 animal characters: the dog is the highest-paying symbol, awarding 3 x your total bet for 6 in combination. Special symbols include gas canisters, DEA Bonus Scatters and fire starters: more on these below.
Trap Tower Mobile

Shady Lady produces all slot games with HTML5 technology. Trap Tower can be played on mobile, desktop and tablet devices. Compatible with iOS and Android smartphones, in Portrait Mode, a laptop or PC would be the way to go for me personally so you can see all the details in the visuals.
Bonus Features
Trap Tower is packed full of bonus features including drive-by shootings that can result in 20,000 x bet wins, gas canister multipliers, mystery symbols, symbol upgrades and a multi-level free spins bonus that combines all base game extras for an explosive, fire-filled experience.
Trap Tower Defense

The Trap Tower Defense feature is randomly activated during a base game. A rival gang then performs a drive-by shooting at the reels: this starts a shootout against any high-value character symbols in the tower. This continues until the rival gang is killed or all high-value character symbols in the tower have been killed.
The shootout plays out in waves: the car fires at the fighters in the tower which can be billed, survive or go ‘berserk’. If a fighter goes berzerk, they will survive between 5-20 extra bullets. Once the car stops shooting, surviving shooters fire back at the rival gang: each hit gives you a coin win. If the rival gang is killed, a larger payout is awarded. Below are details of the 2 rival gangs that can show up:
- Pugs of War: Every shot at the pugs gives you a random coin win between 0.2 and 1 x your total bet. Killing the attackers gives you a coin win between 20 and 1,000 x your total bet.
- The Chi-Chi Cartel: Every shot at the cartel gives you a random coin win between 0.5 and 5 x your total bet. Killing the attackers gives you a coin win between 50 and 20,000 xyour total bet.
Gas Canisters
Look out for gas canisters on the reels during the base game and bonus features. Gas canisters explode if the underlaying symbol is set on fire: this reveals a multiplier from 2x to 10x that is applied to any symbol that crosses it. There are 2 types of gas canisters too:
- Green Gas Canister: awards a multiplier between 2x and 4x
- Red Gas Canister: awards a multiplier between 5x and 10x
Los Gecko's Locos

The Los Gecko’s Locos feature is randomly triggered during a base game spin. 1 to 4 Gecko bikers drive by, torching the house with flamethrowers. Each biker targets a row on the reels, creating a random number of mystery symbols. Depending on the number of rows targeted, the feature can add from 3 positions to a full grid of mystery symbols.
Get Some!
Randomly in the base game or the bonus feature, the Get Some! feature can activate. On ay spin with mystery symbols, there is a chance of a symbol upgrade from a low-value symbol into a high-value character symbol.
Burn the Evidence Bonus

The Burn the Evidence Bonus feature is triggered by landing 3 DEA Bonus Scatters: they appear on reels 1, 2, 5 and 6. You begin with 8 free spins. The aim is to burn all evidence of criminal activities: this is done by landing fire starter symbols on reels 1 and/or 6.
Each fire starter symbol initiates a fire that spreads mystery symbols to adjacent symbols up, down or in the direction away from the fire starter symbol. For example: if a fire start lands on reel 1, it will spread fires to the right.
If a fire spreads over a gas canister, the gas canister explodes and awards a sticky multiplier for the remainder of the feature. If a gas canister explodes on a reel position that already contains a multiplier, the new multiplier is added to the existing one. There are 2 types of fire starter symbols:
- Green Fire Starter: spreads up to 6 fires
- Red Fire Starter: spreads from 6 fires up to the entire grid
Finally, the feature consists of 4 levels: to climb a level, you need to land 3 DEA Bonus Scatters. This also gives you 3 extra free spins (until reaching the last level). Each level has an increased chance of landing at least 1 fire starter symbol:
| Level | Chance of Starting a Fire |
|---|---|
| 1 | 25% |
| 2 | 50% |
| 3 | 75% |
| 4 | 100% |
There is also a Super Burn the Evidence Bonus feature, which is triggered by landing 4 DEA Bonus Scatters. It works like the standard version but you begin on level 2.

Verdict

Trap Tower is a gritty and chaotic crime-themed release with plenty of attitude and bonus features that combine in the free spins for a fresh and entertaining experience.
The Trap Tower slot is the 15th game by Shady Lady. Based on criminal animal characters who defend their ‘trap house’ from rival gangs, the visuals are superb as they are gritty with plenty of little extras thrown in. The animations, big win screens and level of detail is as good as ever from Shady Lady.
Packed full of bonus features, the Trap Tower Defense feature sees a drive-by shooting take place where killing the rival gang can result in a payout of up to 20,000 x your total bet. Gas canisters are important as, when they explode, will reveal multipliers up to 10x that apply to symbols that cross them. The Los Gecko’s Locos feature sees mystery symbols added to the reels, which are important throughout the game. If you randomly trigger the Get Some! feature, the symbols will upgrade for bigger payouts.
In the Burn the Evidence Bonus feature, the aim is to land fire starter symbols on the 2 outer reels. This initiates fires that adds mystery symbols ot the reels and explodes gas canisters for sticky multipliers. The Red Fire Starter is the most lucrative as it can spread fires to the whole grid. Collecting DEA Bonus Scatters will see you win extra free spins and see you rise a trap tower level where your chances of starting fires increases by 25% with each level. Add the random features and the free spins is where the bigger wins are going to come from.
Very high volatility, I found the Burn the Evidence Bonus feature to be very hit and miss. You need the fire starters, gas canister multipliers and mystery symbols to combine for big wins. If you randomly trigger the Get Some! feature with this, you could see huge payouts.
With 20,000 x bet max wins, Trap Tower is an all-action slot game which is multi-faceted and high energy. With plenty of character and attitude, I love how the fire starters shout ‘burn it all’, ‘fire’, ‘burn the evidence’, ‘money’ and ‘say hello to my little friend’ as you spin the reels in the free spins. All in all, it’s another corker from Shady Lady which continues to add great games to their impressive portfolio.
If you want a life of crime, my guide to the best crime-themed slots is for you. You’ll find games inspired by mafia bosses, cartels, serial killers, bandits, law enforcement, heists, prison breaks and biker gangs.
