Sew Slot (Shady Lady)

The Sew slot is played on 5 reels and 1,600 ways, in a 4x5x4x5x4 formation. Winning combinations are created when 2, 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols appear on successive reels, starting with the leftmost reel. As with most slot games, just the highest payout per way to win will be paid out.

With a sewing/horror theme, the Sew slot is not what you think, thematically. Set within grandma’s sewing station in the basement, you’ll first notice the harrowing soundtrack. This isn’t the nice, cardigan-wearing grandma you’ll expect to see knitting a jumper: it’s much more sinister. If previous Shady Lady slots are anything to go by, expect the unexpected.

Set within grandma’s basement, the symbols appear in a 4x5x4x5x4 formation, within a sewing machine. Symbols include 4 low-value sewn items (eyes, teeth, hands and hearts). The higher-value symbols include a tea cup full of blood, a glass with grandma’s false teeth in it and a rather disgusting-looking cake The cake symbol pay the most: a 5 of a kind win will pay 1.5 x your total bet.

Sew benefits from several special symbols. Firstly, there is a Rat Voodoo Doll Wild symbol that substitutes for all paying symbols: 5 in combination pays 1.5 x bet.

There is a Grandma Scatter symbol (which is key to triggering the Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins feature). During the feature, there are heart, brain, hand, eyes, ear and toe body part symbols, it reminded me Nolimit City’s Mental a little. You may come across ripper, doppelganger, finger face, sphincter & bones and great grandmother symbols. With more details on the special symbols below, things turn a dark turn in the bonus features. Hot Zone

During the base game, the Hot Zone feature can activate randomly. When this happens, a number of Hot Zones are placed in random positions on the reels.

Each Hot Zone can be empty, contain a multiplier, wild symbol or a wild symbol with a multiplier. If a winning way to win includes a wild symbol with a multiplier, the multiplier value will apply to the symbol count in that position.

Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins

The Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins feature is triggered by landing 3 Grandma Scatters anywhere during a base game spin. 3 re-spins will be awarded. With each re-spin, a finger is chopped off by the guillotine. The number of unscathed fingers that appear show you how many re-spins you have left.

During the re-spins, only blanks, body part symbols and special symbols may appear. If a body part or special symbol appears, the re-spins counter resets to 3 with 3 fingers appearing intact.

Symbolised by a heart, brain, hand, eyes, ear and toe in glass jars, body part symbols carry a bet multiplier prize ranging from 0.5 to 10 x bet. Every position where a body part symbol lands will be upgraded:

• Starts as an empty space
• The first upgrade adds a skin patch, which increases the multiplier to 2x
• Each additional upgrade increases the multiplier by 1
• The maximum multiplier per position can reach 999x

Additionally, there are 5 special symbols that appear during the Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins feature. They are as follows:

• Ripper: it fills an entire column with skin patches, each with a random multiplier between 2x and 100x. If the Ripper is placed on an existing skin patch, the new value is added to the current multiplier.
• Doppelganger: it chooses a random number of existing skin patches and doubles their multiplier value. The same skin patch can be chosen several times.
• Finger Face: it collects the values of all skin patches and adds the sum to the multiplier value of the position where it lands.
• Sphincter & Bonus: it spawns a random number of body part symbols randomly on the play area.
• Great Grandmother: it persistently transforms body part symbols into higher-value ones for the rest of the feature. Body part symbols will transform to the next low-value symbol, and so on.

Super Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins

Landing 4 Grandma Scatters anywhere during a base game spin will see you trigger the Super Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins feature. Like the standard version, a random position is upgraded into a Super Skin Patch before the first re-spin. The Super Skin Patch will have a starting multiplier up to 999x (111x, 222x, 333x, 444x, 555x, 666x, 777x, 888x or 999x, randomly.

Sew is a terrifying slot game that is thematically distinctive. Putting a fresh spin on the classic Hold ‘n Win mechanic, it delivers a unique and spin-tingling experience coupled with high 20,000 x bet max win potential.

The 7^th game from Shady Lady, the Sew slot is thematically excellent. I associate sewing with a sweet old lady knitting in a corner on a Sunday afternoon: this game is anything but that. Shady Lady takes you the depths of her basement where things get, to put it bluntly, weird.

In the base game, Hot Zones are randomly activated: every Hot Zone will be empty or contain a multiplier wild, or multiplier wild. This is pretty standard though. Things change in the Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins feature, which is dark, sinister and gory.

The key is to land body part symbols (which contain a bet multiplier prize): they award their value and upgrade the position when new body part symbols land in future. Becoming skin patches, the multiplier increases each time a body part symbol lands. The body part symbol values will be awarded when landing on a skin patch position (with the multiplier applying).

The 5 special symbols are crucial to boosting your win potential: I quite like the Ripper as skin patches with multipliers up to 100x are added to entire reel. With the Doppelganger doubling skin patch multipliers, my favourite is the Finger Face as it collects the value of all skin patches and adds the total multiplier value where it lands.

I must add that the special symbols are terrifying: if you’re queasy and don’t like gore, Sew won’t be for you. Couple that with a spine-chilling soundtrack, it’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re lucky enough to trigger the Super version of the Hold ‘n Win Re-Spins feature, you’ll begin with a skin patch worth up to 999x!

With 20,000 x bet max wins, Sew is an unusual and terrifying slot game. Shady Lady has demonstrated their artistic flair but also put a fresh twist of the classic Hold ‘n Win mechanic. The result: a superb slot game that sits nicely in their impressive portfolio.
